Strange Noises Over My House

Tue Mar 08, 2005 2:32 am

This may sound like a bizarre question but it's been puzzling the hell out of me and I figure this is as good a place as any to try find an answer.

A few nights ago something flew over my house at around 2:30AM. I say something because I have absolutely no idea what it was. I didn't see anything, but the sound it produced was unlike any aircraft I've ever heard. It was much louder than anything I've heard come over at that time in the morning, and the only way I can describe the sound is that it was a low, loud, steady and intense hum (almost like a sine wave at around 80Hz if that's of any use). I've heard props make a kind of humming sound before but the character of the noise this aircraft produced was completely different. It sounded nothing like any turbofan I've ever heard. After probably around 30-40 seconds of the noise staying at the same intensity it faded slowly, much more gradually than when aircraft usually fly over. I was practicing bass guitar on headphones at the time and heard the noise at the end of a track, so I have no idea whether it came about gradually or quickly.

It was almost like a police helicopter came overhead, hovered for a while then went away at very slow speed. Living in Bradford I get to hear the Police helicopter on a fairly regular basis, and this sounded nothing even remotely like it.

Does anyone have the vaguest idea what this could have been? I live around 8 miles south-west of LBA if that has any relevance.

Any ideas anyone?

It was the black helicopters that fly over our houses and count all the money inside. They also carry around the UN troops for the UN invasion that will be starting soon. I suggest you keep all your money in foil bags in your basement and wear aluminum foil hats 24/7. Also, avoid any areas showing signs of chemtrails.

OOPs you are British, nevermind.

What you describe sounds like a large charter helicopter or even a Skycrane. It was probably a helicopter though.
I don't know, so this is my signature.

I was thinking how it souded like the unique sound signature of the C-5B engines.

Black C-5s?

This thing maybe  scratchchin ? One of our local news stations has one and everytime it flies by I have run to the window to see what the heck is making that odd noise overhead. It's very loud and has a VERY strange whine to it.
You would think I would have figured it out by now and stopped going to look out the window  banghead

These, approaching, sound like a Learjet flying formation with an ultralight.

Maybe a bit off topic, but I also hear a strange noise from my house. I live 40-50km northeast of BCN under the path that the planes which come from central Europe follow before intercepting RWY 07R and 07L ILS. Planes usually come quite low, maybe around 5,000 ft, and, as they fly over my house I usually hear a loud and intense hum which in some seconds becomes much lower and less intense. It is not the normal sound planes do as the fly over, it is clearly different. I've always thought that it was the noise of the flaps being set for landing. scratchchin  Do you think it is possible? How far from the airport are flaps usually lowered?

Thanks,
