they probably mix it with Red Rooster/Coq Rouge..... Wink I have no idea why France and not England or anywhere else like that. Though you have to be 16 in the UK.
I was shocked when I got asked for ID to buy it...(partly cos I'm 21) In New Zealand you can buy it at any age, and if you go to the right place you can buy the concentrated version.

Really? Here it's the same thing. Anyone can buy Red Bull. It's what inspired Armadas of "energy drinks" to be put out onto the market.

I understand it is banned in Sweden as well. Can't remember the details, but some people say that it is dangerous, due to the high taurine amount or something.

It's banned in Denmark and Malaysia, as well as France. As mentioned, in addition to the high caffiene content, it also contains other "substances" including taurine which stimulates the metabolism. The combination of the caffiene and the "substances" is what the French Health Ministry thought unsafe. The EU Court of Justice upheld the French ban.

just out of interest I've seen another similar energy drink "Dark Dog" advertised on sponsor badges in the FIS ski jumping. I haven't seen this drink in the UK but see it is widely available elewhere. What does it taste like?

I wonder, how will the 'new' Red Bull Formula 1 racing team be welcomed at the French GP. Advertising tobacco products has been banned in the EU during the races for several years now, and teams come up with solutions (like replacing the tobacco company titles with other words and phrases on the cars), but since Red Bull is the only name the racing team has, how will they be called during the French GP?

I'm not much of a fan of Red Bull myself, but during long exam sessions I've had a few cans.

It's because of the caffeine.

Go get a copy of the January 2005 National Geographic and read the article about caffeine in there. It will tell you all about why it is banned.

It is banned here in DEnmark as well.

Acording to the people who banned them it's because it's way to much coffeine in it. I have tried it several times and I cant really feel the difference.
And I must admit that it tastes very good indeed mixed with vodka. Just watch out for your kidneys if you drink to many of them  Wink

Well, that's true, but there a million and one things out there that are really not very good for you, but are perfectly legal. Banning it (revolting as I find the stuff, personally) just seems a bit excessive.

Interesting how all these countries have banned it yet the US still allows it. Meanwhile almost all those countries allow drinking at age 16 yet the US is 21. Always interesting how different countries perceive differently what is dangerous for its citizens.

That was excessive, but 1-2 cans every now and then is fine.

I used to drink Red Bull a lot. Mostly on Sunday's when I got up with hangovers from previous nights. It really helps.
About 6 months ago I was drinking RB at work and I felt like I was getting heart attack. That was it.
I am clean of Red Bull. Last time I had one, was in October 2004  Smile

PS - I know that RB is banned in Malesia because few people have died in the night club drinking RB mixed with vodka.

Wow, surprising to hear Red Bull is banned in so many European countries! Here, it's available everywhere, right on supermarket shelves...and there is no age limit to buy it...it's just like buying coke or Pepsi.

I never buy it though..it tastes like crap..yuck!  ill

BTW...what will the Red Bull racing team do for the French Grand Prix? Cover the titles and call them Jaguar racing again just for the French GP?  Wink

My good Australian friend that works in the beverages industry said The only reason Australia has Red Bull is because New Zealand has it. All Red Bull in Australia is imported from NZ cos our Health Authority has allowed it, but the Australian authority has not made a final decision on Red Bull, and because of our countries similarities is going on our judgement. Apparently it is banned from being supplied to Australia from anywhere other than New Zealand because of this. So effectively it becomes Red Bull Factory  arrow  New Zealand distributor  arrow  Australian distributor. You probably pay more as a result.

I once had 6 redbulls and felt like I was high. Almost a feeling of not weighing anything or walking on air. I guess that's where the slogan comes from. Now I only have no more than one a day, and only drink it once a month.

It's nasty when you mix it with vodka. Nice....but not in the morning. The concentrate tastes like cough syrup.

That's because they want more Scottish guys to get drunk so they can have sex with 'real women', and not the wooly kind you guys find on the farm paddock. This makes the women actually attractive for you guys. With the beer goggles on, Helga with the mostach and body flab ,looks like Angelina Jolie

In the state of Victoria (and possible elsewhere in Australia) it's illegal for bars to serve Red Bull mixed with an alcoholic drink. For example you cannot buy a RedBull and vodka, but technically you can buy a rebdull, and a vodka, then mix it yourself.

No, it is not banned here. I however stopped drinking it (read mix it with vodka) since I heard that it contains something which is extracted from bull testicles. Right or wrong, I don't know.  stirthepot

Ok, Red Bull contains a lot of caffeine but not more than a regular cup of coffee so I don't understand why it is banned in some countries.

I am just drinking a can of Red Bull sugarfree and I love this stuff!

I think you refer to Taurine, which does have something to do with a bull - hence the name I guess. But whether it's from the testiclay (Little Britain  Wink ) or not remains to be seen
