In many states (including NY State) in the USA, one can ask for a expidited trial or hearing, usually within 6 months in civil or criminal matters. Grounds for a motion for an expidited hearing can include: Advanced age (over 65 or older), health problems and family issues (O.J. Simpson requested an expidited trial as had minor children with the murdered wife).
