Favourite Pub

Fri Mar 11, 2005 5:20 am

Whats the name and location of your favourite pub, i.e. if you were to recommend a pub to a stanger which would you choose and why?

In England, I would say 'The Foxley' in Staffordshire.
In Canada, my favourite pub is called 'La Mare au Diable'.

Both are very friendly and warm places, and the music's not too loud so you can have a conversation.

I liked some of the pubs in NYC

Manchester Pub on 2nd ave btwn 48/49th was real good, only Euro brews there. Stella on tap, plus they were showing rugby.

Murphy's pub on 2nd ave, few blocks down from Manchester Pub, the waitress was great. I came in real drunk. I asked for a Boddingtons and a shot of Jager, she just laughed and brought it back for me. The music they were playing was great, alot of Coldplay-good drinking music. Low light, it was alot of fun.

I would recommend the Shamrock Pub, in Benidorm. Its so friendly, and has a buzzing atmosphere, and you are greeted with a true irish welcome. They have a resident band on every night called The Irish Rovers. Next week on St Patrick Day, they will play from 2pm until the wee small hours of the next morning. The bar has to put an extra bar outside the pub as it gets so busy, you just cannot get to the bar inside. The pub also goes through 60 barrels of Guinness on St Patricks Day (50 are for the staff, lol drunk Wink I've made some great friends from that bar as well. It's a shame im not going to be there next week crying

In Cambridge, MA, there are several great pubs nearby:

1. The Plough and Stars
2. The Thirsty Scholar
3. The Field
4. John Harvard's Brew House
5. The Overdraught

And in Somerville,

1. The Independent
2. Tir Na Nog
3. The Burren

Etc. We like our beer here.

The Highlander
Atkins Park (They claim to be the oldest bar in Atlanta)
The Vortex (The best burgers and beer selection [149 different bottled beers just for starters] in town)

Oh god, when I was in England I lost count of all the pubs I could recommend. Damn I must get back there ASAP. As for my little City of Cambridge Ontario Canada, I would recommend the "GOLDEN KIWI" down town Galt. It is the best pub around, tons of Micro Brews on Tap, and the Cook who I know has some of the best dishes around. I will be going down tomorrow during work hours.....shhhh Don't tell my boss.

When I was attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in the mid to late 80's, one of my favorite spots was called (not original) the Library.

Why it was my favorite was not only the $1 pitchers on Fridays, but because on the big sign they had out front of the building one December that said:

"Open Christmas Day. Come party with the homeless."

Who can't resist drinking there?  drunk

I´m not really a pub-guy, but my favourite is Bamboo Bar in Pattaya, Thailand. Great atmosphere and live music, and one of the few places there where the "service ladies" will leave you alone if you´re not looking for them.
