McDonalds: Outsourcing Drivethrough?

Micky'Ds is actually outsourcing ordering at the drive through. So I order a number 1 to some guy in India and then he transmitted my order to the micky'ds im at.

Sorry I should of been more specific. I heard on CNN that they were going to India, this is the only article I could find about the subject, and it is going to N.D

Maybe Mickey D's is finally waking up. As logistically absurd as this proposal is, maybe it will finally be a wake up call to all those who think that a minimum wage job merits minimalist attitude and effort.

I'm sick and tired of these punks who don't pay attention, could care less, and don't seem to be able to think past today-that a minumum wage job is only supposed to be a temporary stepping stone to building job experience and not a lifelong career.

I support Mickey D's 100% on this.

This is such a stupid move. Could you imagine, we have enough of problems getting our orders understood talking to a post, imagine what its going to be like being routed to india?

I couldn't care less about McD's. The only time I eat that junk is when I feel hungry after having drunk a few on a night out and no one else near the tramway stop is open. That's the time when the €1 cheeseburger comes in handy.

I have to ask how many people have actually studied business and finance. There's people willing to work the jobs of people getting paid $7.25 an hour at a wage of $5.15, and what is McDonald's going to do in order to cut losses? Business ain't a nice, cozy fluffy-soft world where everybody wants to be your friend; everybody's out to survive, and only the fittest are going to live. I don't know the cost of transmitting the order from Oregon to N.D., but if it's cost effective, that's the route McDonald's should go in my opinion.

The main reasoning behind this experiment (There are no plans to roll it out nationwide yet) is so that the employees at the store level can focus on the orders so that there are less screwed up orders.

This is actually a brilliant economic strategy. Because of the increase in thechnology, it's effectiveness, and lowering costs, it's easy for McDonald's to make this happen. My family does the same thing with their own business, though not quite up to the scale the McDonalds operation is.

Why pay someone 7.25 an hour when you can get the labor for 2 dollars less? The only thing I question is the expense of doing this type of routing, but obviously the benefits outweigh the costs, otherwise I doubt McDonalds would do it. BRILLIANT!

An independent franchisee started doing this a year or so ago. However, their version only works on one point-of-sale terminal program, so McD would have to do their own version. The people at the call center were paid slightly more per hour than the store based workers.
