Valentines Day Question

Wed Mar 16, 2005 2:46 am

ok, so i just had a call with my father and sister, and he lambasted both my sister and i for not calling our mother or sending her anything on valentines day.

my sister and i simply do not think much of the holiday, and thus didnt think to call out mother specially for feb 14...so that made me wonder who amongst all of you call or send something to your mother on valentines day.

i mean she gets mothers day, isn't that enough? (I'M KIDDING--though surely going to hell for comments like this)

I looked for a card for my mom for Vday, they didn't have much, so I called her and told her. She didn't care.

Valentines Day is just another Hallmark Holiday - and it's supposed to be romantic, why would you send something to your mother ? Unless you have some kind of Oedipal thing going.

haha, no oedipal thing going on.

vday is just another day to express your love for someone. yes, i love my mother.

but the funny thing was my mother jumped in on this call and said "i wouldnt care one way or the other" musch like AA61's mom--and as i would have expected from my mother.

but my father is still rankled about the whole thing. weird, but whatever.

In Finland, its called 'Friendship Day' (or words to that effect) and in Sweden it's called 'All Hearts Day' (or words to that effect). But in Britain it is effectively a romantic thing - meant for couples and people with whom you would like to be - and not for relatives (well, I hear it's a big thing in Scotland; perhaps ask GKirk about it). So I would not give my mum one.

LOL. They like flowers, though - well, to eat, if not to look at and smell.
