MP3 Players

Wed Mar 16, 2005 9:14 am

Hello, since everyone is getting them I am thinking of buying an mp3 player. I was thinking of apple shuffle but I noticed that they didn't have a screen. How am I supposed to know the songs that I am searching for? Does anyone know if the apple shuffle is a good product? Can anyone give me any tips. I am thinking of buying one with less than 1gb or memory.

First of all: iPods are for fashion victims. Don't be one.

I have a 256MB MP3 player, USB 2.0, display, WMA playback, recording functions, MP3 encoder and whatnot included. I love it, especially since I can power it using normal rechargeable AAA batteries which saves a lot of money in the long term but still allows for a lot of flexibility. 256MB is absolutely enough for my needs: the short walks to the supermarket, the way to uni, the train ride home and so on. However, at the rate these things get cheaper, 512MB might be the better deal by now.

The ipod shuffle is not exactly in the same market as the ipod. The shuffle is more of a device where you load a whole bunch of songs you like, and it randomly selects them to play, which is good for when you are exercising or just walking around town. Hence the name "shuffle." It sounds like you are looking for a real mp3 player, though, which can store large amounts of songs and can have any song selected to play at any time. In that case, the ipod or its cheaper similar competitors, like the rio, would be your best bet.

Just today I went out and bought a Samsung YP-MT6 512 MB MP3 cost $120 ($20 more than the IPod shuffle of the same capacity) so far I really like it...I had considered the Ipod shuffle as well, but after reading the reviews, a few things turned me off, namely that people reported some problems with getting it to work on Windows based computers, also the fact that the only way to charge it is through a computer USB port, of which I only have 2, and enough to keep them busy without having to let an IPod Shuffle awkwardly sit in one of them...basically, mine, for $20 more, has a screen with an easy to use menu, sound equalizer controls, FM radio, long battery life (40+ hours on 1 AA battery!), almost as small as the shuffle, and "plug and play" music don't need to use any specialized software to transfer music...just do it straight from Windows Explorer boxes...I highly recommend it if your looking for something with a fairly small capacity...its a really good deal overall...I wasn't in the market for a multi-GB player as my MP3 collection is fairly small, and I think this player is perfect...

I have an IPOD mini (pink one)..the reason I chose it is there are so many accesories avaliable for the sports minded person. Hell I can get a case that i can use so I can listen to it when swimming.

Sometimes all you can do is look them in the eye and ask " how much did your mom drink when she was pregnant with you?"

I have an iPod mini (6gb silver) and I love it! It's my baby! :p

Alot of my friends have the regular iPod and iPod mini, and a few of them the shuffle. The whole idea behind the shuffle is to play your songs at random- and was created by Apple to tackle the flash player market. But if you have the money I would highly suggest the iPod mini or regular iPod. It really all depends on the size of your music library. Like I almost have a thousand songs in my music library. A 256mb player would NEVER satisfy my music needs! lol

I've been researching these as well. Can't decide between a Hard disk player or a Flash based player.

If I were to get a flash based player, i'd probably get the SanDisk 1 gig flash based player. It's small, lightweight and runs on 1 AAA battery and has a long battery life. Also has an FM radio as well.

amazon has it for $132 including shipping. You might find it cheaper on or something.

It's extremely difficult to decide which one to get to be honest.

If you've got any questions about the iPod shuffle, let me know. I got one the other day that I actually won online when i signed up for webhosting. It is amazing how light it is. I've also got the iPod for most of my listening. I had a Dell DJ before that, but it just isn't the same as an iPod.
