Summer Songs

Wed Mar 16, 2005 11:15 am

It has been so warm and sunny here in Portland (yes, that Portland) that I have been thinking about songs from summers past and this summer. What is your summer song play list and what songs do you think will be synonymous with this summer? Some songs from my past summers are:

Closer by Nine Inch Nails
Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Nicki French
Dragostea Din Tei by OZone

Anything from the Beatles' Revolver album. It reminds me of late summer 1966. What a great time!

I listen to really upbeat and happy music like "YMCA" and "Yatta" and "Kung Fu Fighting" etc.

I could go on and on for hours about this...but definitely Neil Diamond, Elvis, and a slew of other 50s/60s.

At my parent's lake house when I am out on the boat, we definitely put on the oldies station when out boating. Lots of fun, sets a great mood. And we have an Elvis impersonator come perform at our annual Fourth of July party. Hundreds of friends and neighbors all come with their friends and tons of boaters stop out on the lake at night and sit there for hours when he performs after the fireworks. Lots of fun.

as fo the last one, where is a madman with an axe when you need it?

Anyway, music from last summer involved albums, not specific songs.  Smile

Leaves Eyes - Lovelorn
Therion - Lemuria/Sirius B
Nightwish - Once

That was a great summer for new releases... Big grin

For me, songs that are synonymous with the summertime have got to include:

Good Thing - Reel Big Fish
You Gotta Go - Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Hash Pipe - Weezer
Minority - Green Day
Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters
Be Quiet And Drive - Deftones
Everything About You - Ugly Kid Joe
Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret - Queens Of The Stone Age
Just A Day - Feeder
Priviledge - Incubus

Just realised that I've been to see every band on this list - something tells me I've been to too many festivals over the years.......  bouncy

One song that makes me think of summer is "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Croft. Great tune. Another one is "Boys of Summer" by Don Henly.

I hate that song, but it reminds me of summer every time I hear it. Just one of the consequences of watching too much TRL in middle school.  Wink

Am I the only one thinking of

Summertime by D.J Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince himself Will Smith.
Strawberry Fields Forever by CandyFlip
Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leopard
Summer Nights by Van Halen
Return to Innocence by Enigma.

Don't know why that last one reminds me of summer.
Where did everybody go?

Good lord I absolutely hated that song when it was a hit. I think it was dubbed one of the worst songs ever with the worst lyrics, not sure where I heard that from. I mean with those crappy (and rather, appalling) lyrics, who can disagree?
