Anyone Read "Ask The Pilot"?

Sun Mar 20, 2005 12:26 pm

I have been reading Patrick Smith's column on Salon.com for a while now and Im wondering if anyone else reads it? Hes an excellent writer, and the columns are always great. You have to pay to be a member but if you watch a short video you can get full access for a little bit. Its under the technology section.

I read them a few months ago and they were interesting. I'll have to try that short video you mentioned to get access.

Yes, I read it regularly and can only recommend it. Patrick Smith routinely uses airliners.net photos for illustration (fully credited, of course), so I wouldn´t be entirely surprised if he held an a.net membership as well...  Wink

Salon.com often has other interesting articles, too. And getting a "Day Pass" for 24-hour-access is quick and easy.

IIRC, he got a mighty bit flamed after he wrote about the stupidity of that Women's Wallstreet Journal writer who freaked out when she had to endure a flight with several Arab men and their McD's/BK/whatever bags aboard. I sent him some positive feedback via e-mail and got a very friendly "thanks a lot" response, quite a decent man.

There's a similar weekly article in USA Today called "Ask the Captain". Appears every Tuesday I believe. It's with Capt. Meryl Getline, who flies 772 for UA. She wrote a book (surprise) about her flying experiences and how she got to where she's at now, and has her own website (surprise) with pics. and other info.
And the winner for best actress is....REESE WITHERSPOON for 'Walk the Line'!!!!!!!!

Smith tore into her once, too. I forget exactly why. Check out his archived columns on Salon.com

i think Patrick Smith is an a-net member. He emailed me after i wrote the PEOPLExpress article for this website and told me about his book and stuff. I haven't read it yet, or his article. I think i tried to access it on salon.com but it said you needed to pay to read it (membership) so i haven't read it.

You don´t need to become a member; Getting a "day pass" by watching an ad is sufficient to have full access to the site for a day.
