Case Against Sixt Car Rental. Can I Do Something?

Wed Mar 30, 2005 7:09 pm

Last year I rented a car at several occasions from Sixt Vienna with a credit card. A month later when I returned to my home country, I noticed about 200 additional Euros taken from my account by the car rental company. I had rented the car on several occasions, and couldn't figure out whether I was the one who had done bad calculations or not. I just forgot about it and moved on.

Last weekend I took a car for four days/78 Euros. When I called them today to check how much they retrieved, they said 120Euros is the base price, 42 Euros more than the signed contract (the additional Km are charged somewhere else, that is not the problem). Now I have to fax the contract because they don't even have a copy in their database. They don't know how much they made me sign for, can't figure out anything of what happened last weekend, and can't even track my record, I had to tell them everything from my name to the car I took and the days. No searchable database. And of course a repetition of the story of my life and who I am everytime I call them, because they promise to call back and don't.

Once I fax a copy to them so that they see it, I will have to fight them as usual. I know it's only 42 Euros, but that's 50% more than the original price, I don't understand how I am supposed to sign contracts that carry my credit card number without knowing how much to expect.

I am very tired of wasting time and effort with this company, I will not hire from them anymore. Everytime I rent a car from an employee, he/she doesn't know a VW from a Lancia and don't know what I mean when I say "Alfa coupe, me want that one", they answer "you car cannot chose what want, you say category and we choose", and if I say "what category is the Alfa coupe?" they say "Alfa coupe is special. You cannot chose car. Only category". And he wrote initials on a piece of paper and gave it to me. Till now I don't know what category is the Alfa Coupe. There are hundreds of ill communication examples like that one. And it has nothing to do with speaking German.

Now the question. I signed something and they took more... Can I do anything about that? How can I vent my frustration? Think of last summer's money..

If anyone rents from the people of Sixt in Vienna, please, think of this post, and next time chose another company.

did that 78euro include taxes, surcharges, insurance and stamp duty etc? i rented a car in Melbourne recently, the CAR itself was $58, the bill was $117, i told the fuka to take his avis shitty corolla and stick it in his ass! the problem was the tolls they charged, stamp duty, insurance and every other fuken tax you can think of! nothing is ever as it seems with rental cars!

next time, use priceline and you can get a car for $15USD a day, forget dealing direct with the companies!

Yes the 78 euros include taxes because it says 65 originally on my contract.

What amazes me with this company is the ignorance, the slowness and the cloud that surrounds the staff when you talk to them. For every question asked, they look in to the screen in front of them, type for about 1 minute, and come back with an answer that seems parachuted out of no-where. For every single question. They also look lost and stressed all the time. Maybe they are used to customers who are like them, just take the car and stuff the company's pockets.

I am still very pissed about last summer's 200 Euros.. it may have been another one of those incapable staff who misread the contract and typed something else.

I would challange the 200 euro too. Chances are that they have screwed up, or there is damage to the car, but they dont know who did it, so charged you for it. You are better off having the 200 eur to spend, rather than some company.

Good luck. Get the b******s.

Better solution:

Call your credit card company and dispute the charges... fax a copy of the contract to your credit card company... it is then THEY that do all the investigative work and THEY that deal with Sixt.

You'd be surprised just how many companies overbill knowing that x% of people won't even dispute the charge.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I followed the insurance company's exact procedures on getting a referral and then arranging the appointment with an in-network oral surgeon. I had everything in writing to document my $1,200 claim.

I submitted it. I was immediately rejected. I called "customer" service and wanted a reason. The clerk told me that a fair number of claims get routinely rejected for no apparent reason. I just resubmitted the claim and it was paid. If even a small percentage of people don't follow through with a complaint or don't keep meticulous records, the insurance company stands to make some big money. Probably the same thing is going on here.
Hypocrisy. It's the new black for liberals.

Is there a government or private consumer agency you can complain to about your problem? Maybe you are not the only one whom has had this problem. Check the fine print contract for procedures (maybe company or private arbitration) to fight these charges. Maybe next time you need a car rental, use one of the web services and defenitely use another company. Also make sure you understand the cars available for the rate you paid. Sometimes, if you get a highly discounted rate, it may mean you have no choice of a particlular make, model or style of car.
