From MCO To MSY By Car?

Thu Mar 31, 2005 11:35 pm

I need some help please.

I have a customer who wants to drive from MCO to MSY. Can anyone tell me how long that trip is by car and how many miles are there?

Thanks in advance.

View that page.

About 640 miles and should take, if you drove non-stop, about 10.5 hours.

Up the Florida Turnpike to I-75, turn left at I-10 near Lake City, FL, and come on west. Not that it's a very exciting drive. Pretty much constant trees right up to the interstate throughout north and west Florida, more open and brackish the further west one comes. They'll pass through a tunnel that goes under Mobile Bay, and the casinos at Biloxi and Gulfport will pass nearby.

Hope he/she enjoys the drive, we've done it a few times.

I've done that drive before. Satan might as well be your passenger because it is hell.

Stop in Gainesville on your way up and maybe some of us guys at the University will meet ya. (about 100 miles north of Orlando, no miles out of the way.)

Yeah, I will echo what the others have said....the drive is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Some family of mine DRIVES from IAH to DAB every few years (yes, crazy I know) and they arrive positively demoralized. (IAH to DAB is just an extension of MSY to MCO).

I've gone from MIA to MSY before. I enjoyed getting there, thats about it. I felt like I had the theme from "Deliverance" playing in my head the entire time through Alabama. But, it was worth it, and MSY is truly a gem of a city.

I'll be driving through both cities later on in the year on my way back to Dallas from Miami. I'm breaking it up a bit though, even though I'm used to travelling for
whole days.

Better yet, take Amtrak. $47 one way from MCO to MSY. The Sunset Limited train leaves MCO every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 1:45pm. On the return it leaves MSY on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 10:30PM. It's a nice ride, i've done it several times.

Last week, I drove Houston to Naples, Fla. I have made said drive about a dozen times. I did it this time as a relative needed a car and a dog down in FLA plus I enjoy the scenery. Inside this drive lays rougly the stretch of MCO-MSY. Florida is quite a large state - the first 30 minutes of the panhandle look the same 7 times again. Enjoy!

Wrong part of the South for that. That's the theme for driving along one of the following roads in N.E. Georgia:

US-441
US-76
US-129
GA-60

Depending upon how much time he wants to take for the trip, I would suggest hugging the coast after going through Mobile and on into Mississippi. At least drop down to old highway 90 from Pascagoula to Gulfport. That's a lovely area and the road is right next to the Gulf most of the way. Tell him he might want to work on his tan and grab some good local food. I went to graduate school in New Orleans and often made the trip to Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach and Destin with my friends. That took about five hours but we liked to stop and enjoy the scenery so it often took longer.
