Sat Apr 02, 2005 8:52 am

Hey all!

I'm working on a website that desesperately need Advertising and, turns out that the local newspaper just released a report on the "fake" of Yahoo Overture and Google Ad Works and now my boss wants to stay away of it.

Its there any other good Internet Ad Company you might recommend??

Thanks!

I want to drive people to my site (well, my bosse's site). its a Hotel, and he's kind of old fashion. First he didn't wanted a website. Then people startes to request a site to view how the Hotel is (its a 15 room hotel in Old San Juan, PR), then he realized people no longer uses Travel Agencies, as he thought. He planned to list the hotel in local travel agencies, but that has not worked. the webpage has worked best, but still he doesn't get the traffic he wants... and then what its said avobe happened.

Here's the site, http://www.sjsuites.com is in its very prehistoric stages, but working. Comments are welcomed... and of course... What can you do for me?

Thanks!

Regu,

What do you mean by overture and adworks being fake? To be honest...the small google ads are the only ads I ever click on. If I owned a website, I'd definately advertise with google. I also heard that person who puts the google ad on his or her site, which directs to your site, earns money too...

On a totally different degree, your profile says your in IT...what exactly is IT? (Information Technology) When I look it up, there is such a broad range of careers considered IT, but what is it really? I've tried a little HTML, and I am creative and pretty good at it, but what kind of degree would I have to have to make a career out of web design? Thanks for your input, and good luck with the advertising.

Hey Adam!

Sadly, its not me who thinks these Ad services are fake. It is my boss. The local newspaper (El Nuevo Dia - ) released a big article mentioning the "fake of Yahoo and Google by clicks advertisements". He read all that, and got alarmed, to the point where he just completely refuses to even try it.

About the IT thingie.. well. My strengts are hardware, Small Networks inplementations, system management and plain 2D graphics. But, when you start meeting people, and when you work too much with computers, you start tasting other fields, here and there, and you get a broad but limited range of knowlegde. In my case, that limited knowledge is HTML, and all of its variants and uses (such as PHP, MySQL, ASP, JSP, etc.). I am also very bad with programming languages. But there are times when you must (or try) to please your customer, depending on the level of knowledge needed for his/her request. For example, that website (sjsuites.com) was directed by someone who has very little experience with computers, so it was not hard to have it working. But, if it was a database driven site... then they would have to hire someone else.

The good thing about computers, its that as long as you have one, and you have the guts to start working with what you have in mind, it doesn't matter in what level you are if you are able to go to your nearest bookshop and get that book you need for your project. This is basically the way I do it, since college didn't helped me that much.

Your site is much better than you had described it. It's clear, organized and rather easy to navigate.

Selling on the Internet is made of two basic components:

1.) Getting the right people to your site.

2.) Getting those people to buy.

When it comes to Adwords, click-fraud* is a problem, but I don't see it as significant enough to deter me from advertising with Google or Overture. That advertising is still well worth it.

You may also want to contact other web sites such as travel web sites, tourism web sites, vacation web sites -- whatever web sites your customers tend to visit. They will gladly advertise if you're willing to pay them. You can usually get your non-competitive business affiliates to add links to their site pointing to yours. That's free traffic and it will help your rankings in the search engines.

Maybe go to the computer room of the hotel and take a quick look on the browser cache to see which sites your hotel guests tend to visit. Advertise the hotel on those sites.

Allowing your interested web surfers to opt-in on an email list is another option, but stay away from overdoing it with this method. It could get you in trouble for spamming.

Whatever you do you MUST keep it ethical.

Anyhow, if you want to know more, just contact be through my profile.

*Click fraud -- the skewing of pay-per-click advertising data with illegitimate hits -- can be accomplished in a number of ways, ranging from manually clicking on the same ad link repeatedly to deploying automated bots. Whatever the method, the results are the same: Merchants pay for traffic from someone who has no intention of purchasing anything.
