Why Don't The People Just Let The Pope Die?

Sat Apr 02, 2005 11:04 am

All the energy of people wanting him to stay is keeping him here although he has to go and is meant to be gone. What do people have against getting a new pope and letting John Paul II die a peaceful death?
I am not bashing the pope or the catholic religion, but rather wondering what is wrong with leaving him in peace and letting him go peacefully

He is dying naturally, and nothing out of the ordinary is being performed on him. He is even having less work done on him than usual, since he refused to be taken to a hospital. What is the point of this thread?

Just asking the question as to why people are so upset and don't let him die peacefully without so much attention!

people don't let people die cos most people are to fuked up and selfish and don't know how to let go, they'd rather hold on to remote hope then face reality! it's just the way people are, until we learn how to let go we're always going to hold onto a glimmer of hope when there is no hope at all.

personally, when he dies i'll be happy, then i dont have to read about the people praying for a mircale, the miracle is that he made it to 84, people should be satisfied with that and the service he's given over the years, but, no they want more, its human nature to try and hold on to what we know.

I'm sure that there are just as many people praying for him to be comfortable and at peace... The energies should cancel each other out allowing God's will to take place.

I don't think they are upset over the fact he is dying, or upset in the way you are perceiving it. I think many people are just going through the normal grieving process, since many Catholics, myself included, feel deeply connected to the leader of our faith. I, however, feel his time is growing near, and I would like to see it be over for his sake. Hopefully he is not suffering, and can spend his last hours or days in peace.

No "extraordinary means" are being done to keep him alive, he IS being allowed to die, not quickly and painfully but more or less naturally.

He has expressed his desire (and it's catholic teaching anyway) to fight for life and to embrace it as long as reasonably possible, and that is what he is doing. It's not as thought the Vatican is in denial about what is happening, at it is in no way at all indicative of some fear of having to get a new pope. I'm sure the cardinals are quite prepared to begin that process, and will do so when the time does come.

Clearly you aren't a christian (with a small c), if you were, you wouldn't have to ask this question.

This has a 'Signed-By' post from Terri Schiavo's parents all over it, but I'm not gonna be that guy.

We are not praying for a miracle, we are praying for him now that he has started his final journey. There was a mass today with the archbishops of panama, nobody was praying for a miracle to keep him alive, but rather for peace to his body and soul in this final moment and for the future of the catholic church.

Remember, half the people on earth have only known this pope, think of that.

He isn't recieving any extra-ordinary care like Terry Schiavo had keeping her aliave for 15 years. His breathing tube/stomach tube are temporary, and I somewhat believe that John Paul knows this is it. The kidney/liver shut-down and decreased breathing are text-book indications that a body has less than 24 hours to live.

At this point I think he's just letting death take its course, doing nothing to either delay or accelerate the inevitibile. He is an incredibly strong man who has battled Parkinsons for years, may his last hours be without pain.  Sad

They are letting him die. Does that mean they should wish he would die? As far as I know, he's not suffering and should go peacefully...a man of his nature deserves that. It was his choice not to return to the hospital, and those around him respected it.

I can understand where Martin is coming from.....

I don't know about you guys, but the media should leave him alone. Every time I visit cnn.com or bbc.co.uk, I'm constantly getting an update about PJP II's health situation....

"End draws closer for ailing Pope"

"World keeps watch on Pope"

"Vatican: Pope near death"

Just leave him alone and let the people pray.

Maybe because for one he is the leader of billions of Catholics and two because he is and perhaps will be the best Pope there has been or ever will be. He has had the best international relations than any other Pope. He has been the Pope of the people. It used to be that Pope's where just in the Vatican giving out orders but this Pope was out and travelling to different countries. He is and will always be an exceptional man. As for why fighting to keep him alive, since when do you just let someone die because they become very ill? Don't you FIGHT to keep them alive and if they don't make it well atleast you knew you tried?......I don't understand why people just assume that because a person is very ill, they would want to immediately die.....people want to live and when they are ill, it us up to the people around them to fight for their live not let them go.
