Son Of A! Computer Help Needed...

Tue Apr 05, 2005 1:04 pm

Man I'm kickin myself right now. I dropped my laptop while the screen was open. Here's the situation. It fell 1 foot, onto carpeting. It landed like a tee pee. I picked it up and it was fine physically, but the screen is goofy. Theres light blue colored lines bouncing around, but only in certain places, and disappears wherever I'm typing. What kind of damage am I looking at? The blue doesn't effect my deskptop, only programs when they are open.

Thanks for your help,
Adam

Do you have warranty on it? In that case I suggest going the safe way and get your screen changed while it is still under warranty, in case of total failure later.

This is just a guess based on what you have said, but since the screen still works, I would say you are looking at some wiring damage maybe between the computer half and the screen half. Again I'm no physical computer expert, but that is just my guess. Did you buy accidental damage coverage? Whether or not, hope it all goes well for you, I would imagine it must feel rather depressing.

PS: How has that laptop worked for you? Im currently looking at that model, a scaled down one also from HP, and a few Dells.

Again hope all goes well.

I cant complain. This computer is amazing, I love it...but to be honest, I wish I didn't buy it. Lugging it around airports and airplanes is not a treat, and it tends to get incredibly hot after just 15 minutes.

I would have rather went with a smaller laptop.

I do have a warranty on it (4 years)...I will be making a trip to circuit city tomorrow.

Thanks!

Adam, as far as wanting a smaller laptop, I guess it all depends on what you want to use it as. A computer used mostly at a desk as a desktop replacement or an ultra portable one.

I have a Dell which works just fine for me, even though my screen is also broken. FINALLY received my screen today, after over two weeks of waiting for Dell to send it out. Of course I also have the accidental care protection in case I mysteriously "spill" something on my computer when its 1.5 years old  Wink

Try pressing the base of the screen at the right between the end of the screen and the HP logo.

The LCD cable connector is located in the top middle part of the motherboard, so locate the external video connector and press down on the keyboard at roughly where that video connnector stands.

If you're under warranty, have them replace the LCD display panel using Spare Part Number 344894-001.

If you're not...contact me, there some Service Advisories concerning ZD7000 notebook displays, we can probably work something out  Wink
