Disgruntled Erau Student's Blog...hilarious!

Tue Apr 12, 2005 4:10 pm

This is the funniest blog I have ever read...I especially recommend "Part 5, People far too obsessed with airplanes." - I feel we could all identify a bit with that part...

I think he needs to see a shrink for "anger management" issues. And with a temper and immaturity like that, mayhaps he should not be designing or workng on airplanes.

I really like this:

Me: So have you been down to the beach yet?
(Load roar overhead)
Idiot: Ah, the Boeing 747, my favourite large-capacity commercial jetliner!
Me: I hate you.

Can't comment on the anger management thing, since I only read part five, but I must say that I agree with him on that. I mean, hey, I can recognise pretty much every plane too, but I don't feel the need to tell everyone when one flies overhead, only when I'm asked. Why? Because it's indeed annoying when people start rambling on about their hobby at every possible moment, to people who don't share that hobby.

I knew Riddle sucked but didn't think it was that bad until I saw this blog. Granted some of his rants are kind of petty, especially the one post where he compares the architecture of buildings at Big 10 schools like Purdue and Indiana with the buildings at Riddle. Of course they're going to make ERAU look like a community college.

I got accepted into Riddle and seriously considered going there but decided to go elsewhere instead. Looking back on it now I'm glad I did....

Hehe... I agree with this bit (below). It is annoying when you're talking to someone, and all they talk about is their interest. E.g. when you talk to someone from A.net and all they want to talk about is bloody planes  yawn   Silly

Like I said, It's not a crime to know these things, just keep them to yourself. I can name pretty much any paintball gun by sound alone just because I am passionate about tournament paintball, but you'll never hear me say "Hey! was that a Dynasty Shocker I just heard? Thats my favourite electropnuematic open bolt spool valve marker!."

I know someone who graduated from SIU, Great pilot (I would sleep on a plane he was flying because I knew there'd be no surprises), just very unlucky with jobs

I think blogger boy has no sense of personal responsibility.. I know I was bitter about not going to Harvard, Yale, or any of the military colleges, but considering I BARELY graduated highschool do I really have that much to be bitter about?

I am an ERAU student at Daytona and I would like to comment on this.

Personally, I feel that most of his gripes are legitimate and so do a lot of other kids on this campus. I say all the more power to him!

When you pay as much as I do, I think you would also feel that you are not getting all that you have been promised. This semester my tuition and fees was close to $12,000, and that does not include any flying expenses (but I fly off campus where it is much cheaper). I took my tour of the campus in January 2000 and I was shown these old classrooms and was told that they would be demolished and replaced shortly. Well, here it is five years later and there is no plan to replace them. McKay hall, a residence dorm, will have to be replaced in a year or two as it is crumbling and will be condemned shortly.

There are things I like about this place and things that I don't like. But the first step in bringing about change is raising awareness about the things that can be changed, which Angry Jim has done and done very well. I wish I had known these things before coming here, but they probably wouldn't have changed my mind. It just would have given me a fair perspective from a student's point of view, and not that of a recruiter.

GO ANGRY JIM!

I must be missing something... While I have only been in the Daytona area for the last few years (including pre-move visits), it SEEMS that the ERAU campus is always in good condition. I haven't ever been inside, so I'll bow to your better knowledge about that.

He just sounds like an angry teenager...about as funny as an Eminem interview. Can someone point to a specific part that they think is funny? All I found was a poorly written ornery cuss-fest.

I am assuming you are viewing the campus from Clyde Morris. The main administration building is right by the entrance and that HAS to look nice because the President and the board of directors have all of their meetings in there.  Smile

And its not that I am bitter at the school, my attitude is that I think the school can improve on many things and I want the school to be the best that it can be.

If you are in town and have the time and want to see the school from the inside I'll be happy to show you around.

I agree!!

Now that I have read it more thoroughly..This kid is a CERTIFIABLE LOOSER!!
EVERYTHING he talked about with very little exception was superficial to his EDUCATION at ERAU. He likes paint ball and his truck, how Fu¢king sweet!!

He thinks that Daytona is a quiet town?? Wait until he gets to Perdue!! SNORE CITY!! I think the reality is that the hurricanes gave him a good scare and he misses his mommy and daddy!!

No one is stopping you from going to the Geek Fest at ERAU.

I really like UND. Sure, I would like it a lot more if it wasn't in North Dakota, but hey, what are you going to do? It's a fun school that is not overrun by a.net types, something that would absolutely drive me mad. Even most of the people in the aviation program seem normal. I could never see myself going to ERAU... talk about sausage-fest!

You can say all you want about Daytona Beach, but it's basically Redneck Riviera. I'm not saying Grand Forks is a great town or anything, far from it, but the social scene in at UND and Grand Forks is definitely better than the toothless hillbilly chick you'd find at ERAU and Daytona.

Don't buy so easily into someone elses opinion.

I am going to reserve my judgements of my own school until I am either able to graduate or that I can tell someone without those words escaping elsewhere that I do not want.

In terms of AE, this school is perfect for anyone that likes the tradition of maintaining a good grip on subsonic travel.  Yeah sure

I wouldn't go to ERAU, for a number of reasons. But that doesn't mean that this place doesn't absolutely suck.

Quoting JCS17 (Reply 16):

I must take issue with you on this one - 95% of the people in the aviation program that I have are extremely irritating.

Now, to be fair, my idea for an "I hate UND" blog is a bit misguided. UND is a pretty decent university. The faculty is good, the facilities are above average. But that's it - everything else about this place sucks.

Well it appears that what this kid wants is to experience everything college life in a college town has to offer, something that you can't possibly get at a school like ERAU. West Lafayette, IN is a boring town in itself, but it has a major university and thousands of college kids. I'm sure anyone going to Purdue can have an easier time having fun than at Riddle.

My issue with this guys blog is, if you were looking for a major college experience, why in the hell did he decide go to Riddle in the first place? Back when I was in high school, I got accepted into ERAU Daytona. At about the same time a recruiter came to my school to talk to about 7 of us who had some interest in going there. After he was done talking we all decided to go elsewhere. Didn't even bother visiting the campus. One of the things that clinched it for us was when he mentioned the 7:1 male to female ratio. Yikes!

''People who can name every airplane ever designed, manufactured, or imagined are a little more extreme, but then again it's the passionate thing again. The people in this category that do actually annoy me are those that seem to have no control over spouting out names of aircraft every time one passes overhead or shows up in a movie/tv show/picture. They do this without provocation. It's like some kind of Aeronautical Tourettes Syndrome. It's not like anyone asks them, "Hey, what kind of plane was that? I'd sure love for someone to tell me the name, max takeoff weight and range of that particular aircraft." And yet some moron is always around to do just that. Let me take you back to my freshman year and a conversation I had with someone on the way back from a class.''
