"The Game Of Their Lives" - UK

Tue Apr 12, 2005 9:33 pm

A new movie is about to be released in the US about what is still considered the greatest victory ever for the US national team.

The film centers around the 1950 US World Cup team and their 1-0 victory over England in the first round of the World Cup in Brazil. To some in the US Joe Gaetjens is still a hero

Check out the trailer at:

So any of you English fans going to check this one out? Assuming it will even be released...

I'm not even sure how familiar most Americans are with this game but maybe it will bring out the older post-war generation of soccer fans.

Would do it it's a good film and not a "U-S-A, U-S-A" type of thing. It's pretty hard to comprehend now just how huge that result was, and just how unlikely. England had something ludicrous like 40 shots on goal but couldn't get it in the back of the net. Added to that, they were undoubtedly extremely complacent about the game in the first place.

Good on them for making a film about it. It's definitely a game that should be celebrated.
