How Can I Sleep Better At Night?

Thu Apr 14, 2005 5:48 pm

OK, my problem is that I can't sleep more than 7 hours per night.
Since I go to bed at around 10:00 on weekdays it means I start fidgeting at 5:00 AM which makes UTAette go Rhaa !

Any tips ?

I tend to have the same problem-either I don't go to bed at a normal time, or I wake up at some ungodly hour, like 3am. It's tough on spouses, to say the least. And, unfortunately, there may be no magic solution. A few things you might try are:

1. Avoid caffeine for about 4-5 hours before going to sleep. Or, preferably, cut it out entirely.
2. Don't nap during the day (I'd miss them, personally)
3. Try to limit liquids in the 2-3 hours before you go to bed (you won't get up as much)
4. Get some exercise--a good workout 4-5 days a week will help you sleep
5. Go to bed at a consistent time each day

And if all these fail, you can do what I do: get up and do some work until you feel tired again, or until it's time to do whatever you do in the morning. It might not be the best possible solution, but at least you aren't keeping anyone else besides yourself awake. I often find that just reading a while--especially a really boring book--helps. Give it a try.

Cheers,
Leanne

1) I stop drinking coffee/tea/etc... after 10 AM.
2) Even though some customer have boring problems, I don't nap  Smile
3) I don't wake up to pee lol  Smile
4) Don't get any exercise during the week (except ...) may this be it ?
5) I always hit the sack between 9.30/10 PM

Have you tried going to sleep when you go to bed? Perhaps it's the excitement that is stimulating your brain (?) and making you wake up. Make the rabbit sleep in a hutch.

And if you did drink alcohol, perhaps that would be a good reason for getting up Big grin.

Failing that, go to bed later, 9.30/10 is far too early for one so young.

Cheers

These are other 3 are sound. Sounds like you follow each of them pretty well, except for this:

I would think so. Even if you just walked a mile, or a couple of kilometers, each day, especially in the evening (when it's nice and cooler), that could definitely help you drop come bedtime. I'm convinced running each day helps me sleep better at night.

One thing a roomie taught me at college my freshman year would be to occassionally down some fudge and milk before bed. Doesn't always work, but it tastes good. Big grin

Participate in a regimen that includes strenuous activity, usually sex but since that isn't in your plans then cycling or running, in the afternoon or evening. This will relax your body enough so you can get some sleep without the added influence of alcohol or a sleeping pill.

Zolpidem. Take 0ne a night for a few months and then when they seem to stop up the dose to two a night! Have to keep thinking up good stories for the doctor though as they dont like prescribing. Try; recently bereaved, court appearance or relationship split, either of them get you usually a 1 week course.

Believe me, one of them and if there was a fire raging in the kitchen you would still sleep like a baby! They ought to sell sleeping tablets over the counter at chemists!

Dude..you got it easy. First, 7 hours is enough sleep at your age. The older we get, the less sleep we need. As for me, I'm in bed at 10pm and already on my way to the hangar at 5am.

That is exactly what I am thinking. I get 5 hours of sleep and that is on a good night. Maybe if you go to bed later, that will make you more tired and make you sleep in later in the morning. I don't know but 7 hours is sufficient. That is only 1 hour short of what is recommended.
