A.Netters - How About A Mass U.S Meet?

Sat Apr 16, 2005 10:54 am

Hello fellow A.Netters.

I was wondering.....

Maybe we should organise a MEGA meet in the US.

If we all had enough advance notice, maybe a large group of us could all invade a U.S city for a weekend. Maybe September/October/November time??

Could use the occasion to hook up with our fellow American A.Netters....

Your thoughts?

There's an NYC meet in the works for Aug 4th through the 7th.

I can't seem to find any information by searching "NYC meet" or even just combing DLKAPA’s post headers.

If it comes to that, I vote for LAX/SFO. Or, maybe you were just referring to your fellow Europeans? Maybe just piggy-back on the NYC thing if we can get some more information.

I'm in and I say we do it in Florida. If you want to do it in those months, the weather down here is the best for this kind of event. I can help organize and plan events. I say MIA or even FLL perhaps.

Well, if you want good spotting, LAX/SFO/MIA/JFK are the places. Otherwise, how about MSY? Lots of fun and a strong A.net presence already with Fred, Steve, Tom, me and others.

There are many things to do in south florida. The weather would be the best down here if you ask me.During those months, we usually get very good weather. Good weather=ability to do more. As I said, I can help plan and organize events. As for Vegas, we would get more variety of airlines and airplanes at MIA for example than at LAS.

Nice to see a big meet, sadly I will not be able to make it to NYC. As I would love to meet up with some people and go to NY( since I never been to the east coast). I will be moving to LAS and going to school. Hope everyone has a great time.

What would you do at a meet for more than 1 day?

Day 1 - Spot/Photgraph
Night 1 - Get Drunk   Then retire to Hotel room.
Day 2- As Previous Day - or maybe go downtown and 'explore'?
Night 2 - Self Explanatory
Day 3 - Look above
Night 3 - On Plane going home

I propose a Fri/Sat/Sun combo or maybe just a Sat/Sun one?

By the way, Ive asked for this thread to be moved to the 'non-av' forum.

I remember reading about the 747SP meet. Have there been many others?

Chartering a rare or otherwise special plane would be a spectacular achievement, but perhaps not very practical. Maybe we could visit someplace unique, like arranging a special trip to one of the desert storage sites. Or perhaps we could book a large block of rooms at whichever on-airport hotel is willing to let us have a party on the roof?

Those suggestions are just what happened to pop into my head, so take them at face value.

That sounds like a great idea, though I'd be leaning towards a West coast destination or MIA or FLL. Obviously, if there's already something cooked up for NYC, that's cool too, but who says we can't have two meets?

I don't know what Florida you live in, but we call those months HURRICANE SEASON! Yeah sure I don't know if you remember last year when four little gusts of wing came, which BLEW EVERYONES HOUSES AWAY!
If you want to get airborne, then yes excellent location.

So if a hurricane comes, we extend the meet. I was comparing Florida weather to the other places being suggested. Also, hurrican seasons are highly unpredictable. Yes we had a few this past season but it does not mean it will occur again.

If all we need is good weather in Oct/Nov, then you could have it at SAT for all I care. We even call it "International" because they have a couple flights to Mexico. Lots of 737's, MD-80's, and RJ's along with a few Airbii and one 757.  Sad

But don't forget that SAA can have almost anything depending on who's in the market for some maintenance! John Travolta's 707... we got it... maybe. Ex-Virgin 747... it's possible. NW DC-10... every so often. You really never know what you'll see until you get there. Had a Saudia MD-11 for ages though. Nice and shiny too.

An A-Net meet in the Fall sounds cool! My suggestions in no specific order.
My choices are self motivated. Why not?

  • Baltimore is my home town and Washington is within 60 miles.

  • Hotlanta!

I never said all we needed was good weather. The good weather is an extra or incentive to have it down here. Are you seriously suggesting SAT? How boring would that be? I love Texas but SAT would not be as fun as MIA.

Do you know Florida weather better than me? A person who has lived here all his life? I do not think so. It does not rain 24/7 in october/november. As a matter of fact, it is not even the rainy season. However, up north it is cold during that time.

Please!

My real suggestion was LAX/SFO in reply #8. I also had the following additional suggestions that could apply to several places (but not SAT).

==> Chartering a rare or otherwise special aircraft

==> Arrange a special trip to one of the desert storage sites

==> Book an on-airport hotel and host a party on the roof

And here's another one, just for kicks...

==> Charter a private plane overfly an active gateway airport

I mean, some of those air-to-air pictures over LAX were pretty amazing!

Well, I am just trying to be helpful here and set something up. I mean, for me it would be better if it were somewhere else because for one I will get to travel and two I won't have the stress of setting up events and so on. So, if me planning the events and having the meeting at MIA is not good enough, keep the suggestions coming.

I will say that I am known for the parties I have and I do not have a problem using my own personal funds to get something if we really want it.

What's to set up. Just get a group rate at a local hotel. Set up a happy hour at a bar. Call the airport authority to see about plane spotting. It's not like we can take a tour of the airport or the planes. So really (as someone said earlier) it's watch planes and drink.

well in my book, I was thinking about more than that. I mean, people flying from all over the place just for the weekend, I immediately thought it has to be worth while and packed with events. I mean, watching planes and drinking sounds fun and all but there is a hell of a lot more to do than just that.

well in my book, I was thinking about more than that. I mean, people flying from all over the place just for the weekend, I immediately thought it has to be worth while and packed with events. I mean, watching planes and drinking sounds fun and all but there is a hell of a lot more to do than just that.

Like what?(leave out the part about the gay bars)

Sounds like some folks are a little turned off about MIA. If you consider that the original requestor wasn't too crazy about combining this idea with the NYC meet already in planning, then perhaps we can consider nixing that location as well? If major gateway airports are the most attractive locations then LAX/SFO and ORD are still in the running. If winter weather is an issue for some, perhaps that leaves LAX/SFO as the front runner for now? In any case, there probably needs to be a lot more input from the European side. So far we have little to go on from across the pond.

Nothing I do is little.

It takes a very little man to admit something like that.

Oh yes, because all of my life revolves around gay bars. I can not even remember the last time I went to a gay bar so X that comment. As for events, the list is endless. Have you ever been to Miami? I mean, the possibilities are endless honestly. Big grin
