Your Most Amazing Music Video Of All Time?

Sun Apr 17, 2005 3:00 am

So what is your favourite?

For me, I think 1992 must have been a special year as both of my favourites are from then:

Pearl Jam - "Jeremy"
Gun 'n' Roses "November Rain"

I can remember seeing these videos for the first time and thinking 'wow'!

Bonham - "Wait for you"

I just liked it....

Metallica - One

This video was Metallica's first, and thrusted them into the world's limelight for the first time. It also opened the door for other Metal bands. Not to mention the video itself is simply amazing.

I know people will think this is lame, but seriously - one cool video.

Kylie Minogue - "Come Into My World". It's very clever. Has her walking down a street in a loop - each trip down the street being slightly different from the last and each time she starts the walk again - this clone/twin of hers appears and walks the same way she did on the previous circut until there are tens of her by the end of the song.

Kinda complicated - and not very well explained on my part. But check out the video if you can.

I'd have to say Oasis "D'ya know what i mean?". I thought that was the coolest video every....given that I am a rabid Oasis fan, I may be biased.

The oddest would be prodigy, "smack my bit*h up." Ever seen that? Just plain weird.

Chemical Brothers - The Test (you don't even have to be on drugs to trip out to it)
The Pharcyde - Fallin up (everything in reverse)
Michael Jackson - Beat it (Ahhh the old Michael! The original "thug" video)
Chris Rock - No Sex in the Champagne Room ("don't step on a bruthas Pumas")
Nine Inch Nails - all videos (its "amazing" they showed these on tv)
Amerie - 1 Thing (she's just hot! I don't even know/care what she's singing about)
Kylie Minogue - Come Into My World ( I have to agree with QantasForever its a corny song but very cool video)
Talking Heads - Stay Up Late (Cool video. 80's song)
Fatboy Slim - Birld of Prey (A message)
Outkasts - From ATLiens to Stankonia a lot of good videos
Junior/Senior - Don't Stop (If Atari had gotten into music video production...)
Beastie Boys - Sabotage and the one where the spy's are after the fondue recipe (both cool and different videos)
"How Many Assholes we got on this ship?" - Lord Helmet

I'll bite and explain mine

Queens of the Stone Age - "Go With the Flow" - The CGI effects using both live action of the band, the stark red and black colorscheme, and then the psychedelic ending.

Smashing Pumpkins - "Tonight, Tonight" - The costumes, the background, the filming technique does Georges Méliès original "Voyage to the Moon" proud.

Smashing Pumpkins - "Stand Inside Your Love" - Costuming again, the entirely black & white nature, as well as using a take on the "Salome" story wins this one for imagination.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Californication" - The CGI/Video game aspect of the video caught my eye the first time I saw it

Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Otherside" - There's so much I like about this one - it reminds you a bit of an early period horror film like "Cabinet of Dr. Caligari," but things like the fight with the gigantic bird, the band members playing items recognizable as their instruments yet not (John Frusciante plucking a giant string, Flea hopping on telephone wires and playing them, Chad playing a spinning clock), the circular storyline.

Audioslave - "Show Me How to Live" - Taking a little known film ("Vanishing Point," using footage from it, putting the band in that footage. The shots of the band alone in the desert.

Foo Fighters - "Everlong" - Good propwork, good acting by the band members, good make-up work. The idea of the intermingling of the real world and the dream world was also itneresting.
South Carolina - too small to be its own country, too big to be a mental asylum.

Ok ok...as a 90's child here you go:

Aerosmith-Crazy(no reason necessary)
Aerosmith-Cryin(se above)
Dave Matthews Band-Crash(imagery/etc...you kinda need to be a dmb fan to get it so I might be off base here)
Dave Matthews Band-Crush(black and white, just see it and you will know)
Blink 182-First Date(hilarious)

this is all I can think of right now...

OK...

A Perfect Circle - Imagine: The first time I saw this video, I was both disgusted and depressed at our society's current state of affairs.

Rammstein - Ohne Dich: No one gets left behind.

So I've just spouted off some rather allegorical videos; having said all that, Call on Me is just about one of the best videos I've ever seen... bigthumbsup

Other videos he did was Sleeping Bag - ZZ Top and Lucky In Love - Mick Jaggar.
I can't think of th eproducers name at the moment.

The first MTV video to air was Video Killed The Rock star by some new wave/punk group in 1981.

Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star
From the Album - Age Of Plastic
I heard you on the wireless back in Fifty Two
Lying awake intent at tuning in on you.
If I was young it didn't stop you coming through.

Oh-a oh

They took the credit for your second symphony.
Rewritten by machine and new technology,
and now I understand the problems you can see.
Oh-a oh

I met your children
Oh-a oh

What did you tell them?
Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

Pictures came and broke your heart.
Oh-a-a-a oh

And now we meet in an abandoned studio.
We hear the playback and it seems so long ago.
And you remember the jingles used to go.
Oh-a oh

You were the first one.
Oh-a oh

You were the last one.

Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.
In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone to far
Oh-a-aho oh,
Oh-a-aho oh

Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone to far.
Pictures came and broke your heart, look I'll play my VCR.

You are a radio star.
You are a radio star.
Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

repeat
Video killed the radio star. (You are a radio star.)

I also have to agree it is one of the most fascinating videos.

Here is something I found...(doesn't answer all the questions)

The video was an elaborate, expensive production. Shot in the Parisian suburb of Boulogne, in an area called Point du Jour, the video required the area to be closed off and manned by 50 extras (including actress Sacha Bourdo.) Filmed by a large motion control rig, Kylie Minogue walks around town, amidst the townsfolk busy with their own lives. As the song progresses and the chorus repeats, she returns to the point where she began and is joined by another Kylie. This continues, and by the end of the video there are four Kylies, as well as multiples of all the townsfolk.
"Come Into My World" is a better execution of the concept Gondry first used in his Neneh Cherry video, where Neneh was replicated as she walked down a likewise- replicating city block. Perhaps this time the technology and technique were ready. Apparently it took fifteen takes until everyone was satisfied with Kylie's video. After the Sept. 7 rehearsal and Sept. 8 shoot, 15 days of special effects were performed by Olivier "Twist" Gondry and his Twisted Labs, with post by Mikros and Duran.

Gwen Stefani - What you waitin for?
Beyonce - Naughty girl

before anyone says otherwise, I'm straight, I just think these videos deserve some cred for their concepts and how well everything came together.

Does anyone know of any movie directors come in and direct music clips like this? I know Baz Lurman (Director Moulin Rouge - spelling may be off) came in to direct the ad for chanel no.5, any ideas about other such cases?

Queens of the Stone Age - "Go With the Flow" - The CGI effects using both live action of the band, the stark red and black colorscheme, and then the psychedelic ending.

Plus that girl has a great arse.

I tell you what i like...

RHCP - Scar Tissue. the very last scene when the car drives off and the camera goes down. Just looks so good.
