Your Family: How Many Brothers/sisters?

Thu Apr 21, 2005 9:28 am

Hi all,

I just thought of this...

How many brothers do you have? How many sisters do you have? Are they older and/or younger than you?

I have one half sister who was adopted. She is 10 years older than me. I have not seen her for years now.

I have one half brother (from same father) who is 5 years older than me. His life is hard on him.

Thanks!

Just one sister who will be 18 in a week (scary thought). I probably have around 10-15 cousins, 8 or 10 of them I give a shit about.

Who was the 1960s comedian who used the line... "my brother was an only child." ?

Thankfully, for me, I'm an only (surviving) child and have never had to contend with sibling rivalry. I've had near brother/sister relationships with very close first cousins so I don't really feel "left out" of a larger family situation in the growing-up years, but still I can enjoy the benifits of not having some asshole brother or sister imposing. Wifey has brothers and sisters numbered four overall, and three of them are completely qualified for offing. One out of four is not a great ratio, and from horror stories I've heard from a lot of aquaintances from larg(er) families cement my happiness.

Of course I'm sure that there are many large families that not only do well, but VERY well indeed, in all family aspects. To me. though, I'm very pleasured by not having to put up with what I perceive as a lot of extra bullshit. Regards..Jack (P.S. We won't get into why there are some families shouldn't be producing ANY offspring, let alone multiples of offspring, will we?).

Regards...Jack

Four brothers (three still living), all older than me. No sisters. (Which probably explains why my mother has Alzheimer's - we drove her to it!)

I have one brother who is 23 and one neice who was 1 year old last month. Even though my brother looks nothing like me, she is the spitting image of me (gawd bless her). We are going to court at the moment to gain access as the twisted bitch of a mother won't allow anyone see her, not even my brother, but it will be all sorted out by Mid-June, hopefully.

One older brother, 3 years older than me. And one cousin whom I consider my sister than my cousin.

But, I am very close with all my first cousins and some second cousins too. My father is one of eight and my grandmother is one of thirteen. So you can imagine how big this family is!! Something like 40 cousins.

cheers

I am the youngest! (Not often I get to say those words these days!) Big grin

One of my sisters is only 6 months older than me (work that one out!).
Actually the reason is that she's my step-sister. I have another older step-sister (my sisters are 31 and 34 respectively). I also have a brother, who is my 'real' brother, who is 34. So all 4 of us are similar ages, which was fun (not!) when growing up. We all get along very well as adults now though!

One younger sister, Sharon. She's 3 years, 9 months younger than I am. She turned 28 a month ago, I'm 32 in July.

Her personality is almost 180 degrees opposite of mine. She and I used to fight like cats and dogs, but in past years, we have a lot in common and have good conversations. I'm glad I have her in my life, and wish I could see her more often. I live north of Seattle, she lives in San Francisco.
