Boeing 747-100 First Flight On Wednesday!

Wed Apr 27, 2005 4:47 am

I just heard on the radio that Boeing has confirmed the 747 first flight for tomorrow morning!

My question is: Do you think it will fly? It looks way too big and too heavy. Personally I don't think anything larger than a 720 can rotate.

But I heard that there will be a bar, lounge, disco, massage parlor and even a record store on board! Groovy!

Look how strange it looks! Do you think any passenger will ever enter this thing? Personally, I don't think this nose will ever become a classic. Just look at the 707. Thats the way a nose should look like.

Do YOU think it will get off the ground tomorrow? And do you think it will EVER be a successful airplane?

I heard that Boeing wants to sell more than 100 units until 1992. But in 1992 we will all fly around in UFOs. Who will need a plane under these circumstances?

You're right, it'll never fly, much less sell. It will lead to the demise of Boeing, which will be bought out by Convair or Martin.

By then Boeing will no longer exist.Douglas,Convair and dassault will eat them alive.

Mike.

P.S:That's not an airplane, that's a flying whale!! But i doubt that something as big as that thing ever flies....

Actually, there is no need for another subsonic airliner. All airline travel will be supersonic by 1975. I know it from a reliable source.

Well, don't be hasty. 707s are bigger and they have those new Super DC-8s coming out. Personally, I think that bird will be a big sales success, as they seem to be having problems with the SST and those new engines are supposed to really be efficient. I am predicting 1300 by 2003. Well, as long as the world does not explode in 2000

My god look at that ridiculous hump in the front! What was Boeing thinking???

And imagine one of these things ever crashing! The death toll will be so high no-one will ever want to fly it ever again. It'll ruin Boeing.

Also, I know I wouldn't want to be in the same area with so many people for 10 hours straight! And imagine the lines for boarding and customs!

In conclusion: this plane is doomed. Doomed I tell you!

Will there be a further developed series, maybe a 747-200, capable of flying to the moon? Space tourism will boom in the 70s, and by 1980 there will be more tourists on the moon than in Las Vegas.

Do you think they will make a 747-200, and will it be able to travel at the speed of light? Which modifications to the engines or galleys will it require?

I think the 747 will soon be cancelled but if it gets off the ground maybe they will make the -200 for travel to our future moon and mars bases and resorts. I hope this gets done before the new millenium-god 2000 is so long away!

This is insane! What are Boeing thinking, this will end them and Douglas will swallow them alive! What is the need for this plane anyway, by 2000 we will all have personal spaceships with half of us living in space,

No way it's gonna fly. I have learned from reliable sources that the damn thing is a rustbucket due to all the moisture it has been exposed to while sitting in the damp and moist Seattle weather. Only the most corrupt officials would dream of ordering this thing.

I agree with you, Sebi! And wait how you'll be laughing tomorrow, on the big day in Seattle!

I heard that probably the wings will rip off due to the high power of the 4 engines, leaving the fuselage on the ground, with the wings blasting down the runway alone.

Also, why 747? Why 4? Why not 787? I heard that the 8 is a big number in Asia.

No way the 747 flew 30 years ago! Jets weren't even flying back then! Personally, I think Boeing will divert all future funding to a nuclear powered space-plane that can fly from NYC-Tokyo in two hours, and seats 300 people!

YOU are confused. Boeing will not name their plane A380. I've got it from a reliable source. It will be named 747, I'm almost 100% positive on that one. Why would they drop their trademark 7*7 number system?

Heck, one day they might even build a 757! It will most likely have 3 levels and a length of more than 22 Cadillacs, for all I can imagine.

The DC-10 will only be temporary. They're just putting that out as a cover for their space-plane project, the DC-15. At least thats what an insider told me.

Dudes, there is no market for this plane! They're probably gonna have to develop a "shortened" 747 for the long, thin routes that will exist ten years down the road.

What an ugly fat beast! No airport is going to be capable of handling it and... Reliable sources told me it's way overweight, they had to strip it from the blackjack tables to get it into the air! I hope Air France is not going to purchase it, it would look awful in their new colors and it would soon get dirty.

Wow the Boeing bashers are really out today  Yeah sure.

It is already common knowledge that the 747 will be predominately used as a freighter once the Concorde is firmly established as an airliner and Supersonic air travel will be as common as DC3's. I can't wait to see an all orange Braniff Concorde flying NYC-LAX in less than 2 hours! The 747 will succeed, it will just not be in the passenger-carrying market.

Northwest is apparently looking at replacing their brand new DC9 fleet with Concorde to stay ahead of the curve. Why take a 3 hour flight when you can do it in 30 minutes?

Pahleese, this thing is going to bankrupt the first airlines to order them, gosh, if I worked for Pan Am, I'd cash in my stock now. What was Trippe thinking?

How many lavs will they have, and what will happen if you flush them all at the same time?

I believe you've got it the wrong way around. In fact, a passenger doesn't CARE if his flight takes a couple of hours longer. Transcontinental in 6 hours, big deal. In fact, the Concorde would be a perfect freighter. Look at all the time sensitive cargo. Look at pizza pies. They're not warm anymore after an hour.

Also, why fly DTW-FNT in 25 mins when concorde can be there in 3 minutes. I can't want to see the Concorde in the new pumpkin Braniff livery. Eventually all the airlines will only have Concordes and DC-9s. Boeing has no chance. The 747 will put them out of business! Bankrupt I tell you! It can't even fly!!

I wonder what would happen if you filled this beast with pigeons and while flying, they all took off at once?
Seriously though..
Will they need their own special tall airstairs for boarding/unboarding?
Will Allegheny be buying any of them?
Will they fit onto runways or crumble them?
Do the engines use water injection to take off?

Nah you don't want to fly on this thing... its not safe man! I mean disco's are dangerous! You might get stabbed or have your drink spiked! And as for the on board record store... you want to stay away from those Rolling stones characters! They are up to no good with their loud "ROCK" music!

I just can't wait to see it in Northeast Yellowbird colors, or Mohawk Gold and Black! It will be awesome!
It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

Quoting Birdwatching (Reply 43):

For the proposed outer space routes (Pan Am to MOO and MRS), the 747 will be having a "rocket in her pocket"!

Where the heck did you get that picture from? I hear there's this strange place in Nevada where they test aircraft. Did you get it from there? You had better watch out, they don't like you taking pictures of their top-secret prototypes!

Anyway, this thing will never get off the ground in the first place... That picture was obviously faked using blue background screen and a cut out picture. Nobody will ever see it carry another craft, let alone fly with passengers on board!
Up, up and away!
