Present For My Arch-Republican Friend

Thu Apr 28, 2005 6:44 am

I'm trying to find a gift for a friend who is an UBER Republican. Anybody have interesting ideas for Republican-like things to get her? For example, an Ann Coulter doll or something like that.

Perhaps a frontal lobotomy will do the trick.

Maybe get some campaign buttons or similar materials from past Republican Presidential Campaigns of Reagan, Bush 41 or Bush 43, or even Goldwater (1964) and Nixon (1968, 1972). You can probably find items on E-Bay, places that sell political collectables. I still have a George McGovern button from the 1972 Presidental race (first election I could vote in, as vote changed to 18 by then).

Or you can get her a gag-gift like a book from Michael Moore or Farenheit 9/11.  Silly ...that is if she isn't too right wing to have a sense of humor.  Wink  stirthepot

Or you could get her the complete Michael Moore collection on DVD.

OK, Mdsh00 beat me to it, but seriously, I was typing this while he posted.

Seriously, does your gift have to be politically motivated? Last I checked, both conservatives and liberals, eat, drink, breathe, listen to music, and watch movies (just not the same ones).

Rjp -- there is a store on 17th and L in DC I believe that sells political memorabilia of all stripes. You may want to check there.

Or else, give him/her a T-shirt that says "I'm an Uber Republican and my Gay Friend gave me this T-shirt."

Other than that, I loved all the previous responses. Great laughs for a Wed afternoon !

Lol! That was a good one, Galaxy! If she is really into politics, check out the gift shops in Presidential museums. Got a great bumper sticker from the LBJ library in Austin from the Perot campaign "Re-elect Nobody!" Also found a "Women for Reagan" pin and quite a few other things from both sides of the aisle. Or write to a Representative or Senator from her state and ask for an American flag from her favorite Congressperson with a personalized message. A lot of people in Congress are happy to do that. There are lots of great books and other tidbits if you are trying to get a political gift. Otherwise I'd suggest the Pres. Bush II Bible  Smile

If you really want to get someone like that something they'll like go to the place Jaysit mentioned, or go to the Rush Limbaugh website and get the person a gift from there. Or Hannity or NewsMax, etc.

For, my uncle we got a Barbie-doll sized Ronald Reagan doll, which speaks famous phrases. Maybe you should get on Froogle and check that out. He got a kick out of it.

How about going to one of those places that make little figurines of people? You could get one made of yourself and give it to her. That would be perfect!

Hey RJPieces and Dl021: I don't think 410's mention of Mein Kampf was meant to be anything more than an example of extremely conservative (it's so conservative that is practically full circle and extremely liberal) crazy  literature, but I can't speak for him. I certainly made no association with Naziism and anyone's ethnic background (esp. RJ's, who I know is Jewish) when I responded. Sorry for any hurt feelings.

Logan...I did not think it really anything more than political, and I mentioned that maybe I'm being too sensitive in a funny thread (for which I apologized) but my mother lost family during the Nazi occupation and had to be placed in hiding herself...so I thought I'd mention that Nazi jokes about conservatives are misplaced, as there is absolutely no real comparison between me and a card carrying Nazi. That goes beyond what most Americans think of when we think of an arch conservative. The extreme left, at least those with no personal experience of Nazism, may do so, but its still usually seriously misplaced.

Political references toward fascists and communists are probably fair game in my book, and I almost always reserve the terms Stalinist/Nazi for practicioners of the black arts. But really, thats all it is....my book. Just wanted to put my 2 cents in the deal. Sorry to bring the thing down a little. I know it got L410s motor revved a bit.

Anyway....may we please go back to being funny?
