The Amount Of Oil In Different Countries

Fri Apr 29, 2005 4:09 pm

Malaysia, Brunei, UAE, Saudi Arabia, USA, Canada, UK etc they all have oil right? What about Australia and China?

Guess Saudi Arabia has the largest amount of oil followed by Iraq right? However Iraq has the lowest cost of extracting oil from what I heard. Like US$ 5 per barrel.

Conventional Oil only: Saudi (261 billion barrels) then Iraq (115 billion barrels).

All Oil (tarsands, etc.): Saudi, then Canada (about 200-250 billion barrels are easily accessible and producible - could be as high as 2.5 trillion barrels...no one really knows for sure yet)

I have some serious doubts about a couple of my Social science (History, Geography, Economics, etc.) teachers qualifications to teach due to a couple of things that some have said over the years (not doubting them because they've failed me or anything, I've always done well, just some comments have been blatantly untrue) anyway...

I think one of them was telling us one day about how Australia does have quite a bit of reserve oil that's untapped. They said one of (if not the) largest reserves we have is in our great barrier reef region so it's not a viable option to disrupt one of our great tourist destinations until an oil situation get really dire. We also have huge reserves of Coal and I'm pretty sure we have the second largest uranium reserves of any country aswell...

Don't take this as absolute truth, but I'm confident this is right...

Cheers,
OzGuy

There is this HUGE idea in Australia and around the world that Australia has little or no oil. To set the record straight, we have alot of oil, it is rated as the cleanest oil in the world and is the largest reserve that has not yet been really exploited.

I also heard a rumour that NASA only uses Australian oil.

Australia does I think but not as much as Canada, Saudi etc.

So Saudi is no 1 and Canada is no 2? What about Iraq? It is easier/cheaper to obtain in Iraq though

Quoting AR1300 (Reply 1):
I've heard Alaska has the largest amount of oil.

Perhaps only on this continent. Certainly not the largest deposits in the world.

We also have trillions of cubic feet of untapped natural gas reserves. So much in fact, no one is sure of the total count.

There are several ways to report oil reserves, and adding questions about individual Counrtry's reserves is going to be so much fun I thought I would post the following link

the search topic is "World Oil Reserves"

http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...69-53,GGLC:en&q=world+oil+reserves

enjoy
