1st Family Guy In 3 Years. Your Thoughts?

Mon May 02, 2005 11:47 am

I'm pleased that the new Family Guy wasn't sanitized for modern puritanism. The episode wasn't the best, but it was still funny as hell. Especially the 'knowing is half the battle' G.I. Joe bit.

I didn't see all of it, but what I did see was hilarious.

My favorite moments:

-Gepetto (I think that's his name) trying to get Pinocchio to lie to him
-the chase scene with the priests
-"Christians don't believe in gravity"

Looking forward to more.

I liked the North by Northwest parody. Not the best family guy I ever saw but some classic moments and a lot of laughs.

Looking forward to the next few!

I guess almost 2 days with little sleep effects my opinion somewhat but it just did not have the zingers that the older episodes had. Still, I am happy to see it's return as I was a huge fan of this from day 1.

I thought it was pretty good...glad its back for some fresh material though...the opening bit was my favorite, listing off all the shows that got canceled after them and before the return!

I enjoyed it...I wasn't blown away like I was when I first saw some of the earlier episodes but it was funny. Considering all the time they had I guess I had expected a bit more but it was good to see a new episode after all of this time! Hopefully they can keep up to the high standards that they set for themselves with the first three seasons!

The pinochio scene was funny (I didn't get it for a while but I sort of thought about the whole "bending over near pinochio's nose" as suggesting something.

On slightly un-related news...

...American Dad's really gonna suck.

Most of the "humor" is easily predictable, and half the show's a direct rip from Family Guy.

I loved it! I'm so glad FOX finally let it back on the air! The beginning had me laughing pretty hard. The pinochio scene was price-less....Awesome show!

And yes, American Dad is gonna fricken suck. That show is not very funny at all...It just tries too hard.

Yeah, I'm not going to go out of my way to watch it. It has its moments, but it doesn't come close to Family Guy.

I liked the beginning where Peter listed all of the Fox shows that essentially flopped.

I missed it! I wanted to see it for the longest time and then I had to go to a stupid family function!  irked

Does anyone know if it'll repeat soon?

Family Guy and South Park are the only shows that make me laugh out loud in all of current comedy shows so I will continue to watch them. I thought that the new episode was VERY funny in the first half but then lost some momentum during the last half. The ending was pretty good though. I thought it was a nice episode. The best joke they did was when peter forgot how to sit on a chair and that car crash scene, that was funny. Family Guy has the potential to be the next South Park.

totally agreed. although some parts really got me laughing.

i loved the new Family Guy. although the dog and stewie NEVER got along in the first seasons. what is up with this sudden meshing?

they definitely made some rounds, getting most of the tv crew in there. i presume the neighbors and whomever else will return in the next two or three episodes.

i thought the T2 movie was hilarious, in addition to everything else about the show you all have mentioned.

I was happy as a clam to see new episodes of Family Guy again.

Personally I thought the show started off a bit slow and kind of jumped around from main character to character. But I suppose that was neccessary to (re)introduce the characters to those who may have been under a rock for the past 6 years. But once it got going it was pretty good and had all the classic elements of Family Guy.

Loved the GI Joe paradoy in the boys room.
Loved the Ghepetto bit.
Loved the fact that Brian now drives a Prius with a "Kucinich '04" bumper sticker.
Loved the looks on the kids faces/Stewies dream when Peter and Lois "christened" their new bed sheets.

I think we will be seeing more of a relationship develop between Stewie and Brian. They both began as secondary characters, but they quickly stole the show. The portrayal of their relationship as mom and dad was pretty classic though... they always seem to come together whenever circumstances get difficult.

It was pretty good, a buddy of mine downloaded a ripped version of it, so the suprise kind of ruined for it me, cause he wouldn't shut up about it. But it was pretty funny..

One of the things that's so great about family guy, like in the opening bit, they're willing to take a good or so-so joke and run it out for so ridiculously long that the length becomes funny in and of itself, and the fact that there's always something like the Kucinich sticker to make you laugh when they easily could've gotten away with doing nothing. And American Dad=Family Guy minus everything good.

The networks really dropped the ball on this one, the episode has been available on the net for over a week now!

I believe in June Cartoon Networks "Adult Swim" will show the new episodes

This was the first time, though, to my knowledge, that Stewie was the "leader" and Bryan the "follower" if that makes sense.

I expected this one to kind of be a little slow as they had to reintroduce the show (i.e. you can't just pick up where you left off and all, you have to slowly go into it), but I'd say give it 2 or 3 more weeks and we'll have something.

McFarlane completely disagrees.

If you saw his CNN interview in the 30min before the show aired, he said he wanted to keep this one fast paced so that the audience wouldn't feel as if they'd missed a beat since the last ep of the previously final season.

I hadn't laughed that much in about a week. While not on top of their game with the zingers, the pop culture references dead on.

As for American Dad, it had it's moments, but is a pale shadow of Family Guy. Instead of a new show, they should have brought back Futurama!
