All Clogged Up And Nowhere To Go! Rhaa!

Wed May 11, 2005 3:56 pm

No, nothing to do with Denmark  Wink

I was just reflecting on the fact that I unfortunately spend most of my driving time during the week clogged up in traffic jams, thanks to the inaptitude of Dublin City Council's traffic management policies.

How is it over in your hometown ?

Not too bad really...leaving town to the south on US 36, there's always a delay because of the very steep and lengthy hill that leads out of town and to the rest of metro Denver, and that always slows traffic down and causes backups...in town it's not bad at all except after football games, in which case it's gridlock for hours, but fortunately that's only about 6 days a year...

Maybe the Dublin traffic management under estimated the amount of cars on the road.

I was actually thinking this afternoon how clogged the roads were, not so much that the traffic was stopped but how far I have to travel to and from work each day. about 64km round trip in heavy traffic. There should be an incentive for people to live closer to work so that the roads would be less clogged.
Why fly non stop when you can connect

Here in Seattle it isn't really that bad. Then again, I don't drive in rush hour traffic.

Antibes was MENTAL this weekend, as it was a 4-day weekend, plus Cannes Film Festival is on. The Route De Grasse, that goes up to the A8 highway on-ramp was backed up for over 2 km on Sunday evening (I was going the other way), and I believe the highway itself was jammed solid.

CPH is terrible in the mornings.. I still wonder why so many people drive their car to CPH, when they know that they are gonna have problems with traffic jams and so on.
CPH has a great public transportation system that more people should use.

I think my dad would agree that CPH have an excellent public transport system, since he's been forced to use it for the past few weeks Big grin

Of course, it doesn't helpt the cloggin' that they've decided to overhaul one of the main highway arteries  sarcastic

Most of the European cities were pretty much destroyed during WW2. After WW2, the cities got rebuilt with modern traffic in mind. Dublin, being the capital of a neutral country in WW2, never suffered this fate, it is essentially still a Victorian / Edwardian city. As a result they are still using the same narrow streets which were originally designed for horse carriages.

Here in Pittsburgh, avoid the Parkways. Parkway West is horrible! Parkway East is second, and the Parkway North is so-so.

Its absolute murder trying to get to work here in the morning. Takes at least 10 minutes if I hit the traffic.

Of course, if I go in early it takes about 5 minutes. Who wants to live in a big city - not me ta! Big grin

Tampa traffic is pretty bad. I drive about 62mi round trip every day. Luckily I go the opposite way of most of the traffic. Still takes me 40-45 mins to get to work every day.
