Dubai Duty Free

Thu May 12, 2005 5:28 pm

Hi all,

Off to Dubai in a few days and I want to buy a new camera. Any idea if there is something to save on buying it there compared to here in Europe?

I am specifically looking for the Canon PowerShot S2 IS, so if anyone know the price of that one at DXB I would be happy to hear! But also if anyone know the price level for cameras at DXB in general that would do....

Thanks in advance, Michael

I went through that shop a year or so ago and it is a tourist trap, I didn't see anything there that I wanted to buy that would save me any money over buying it in South Africa. From the research I have done the prices in the US are the best, maybe you should ask this question in the photography forum.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Just search the internet shops for how much it is sold in the EU
then compare it with the internet shops in the US
and then see on the spot in Dubai whether there's any financial sense in buying it.

just a quick search...

price range in the UK:

price range in Germany:

price range in the US: http://shopping.yahoo.com/search;_yl...2g-?p=Canon+PowerShot+S2+IS&did=59

As Andz said the duty-free at the airport is a trap (except for cigars and the like).
Prices in the various city malls are generally ok but not better than what you can find in W. Europe (if you are price-conscious).
Only exception are the "promotions" some shops run during Dubai Shopping Festival (three months earlier...).
