Air America Radio

Sat May 14, 2005 1:03 pm

As many of y'all might have noticed, I am a liberal. Therefore, when Air America radio was launched and when we started picking it up in the DFW metroplex, I was hopeful for an entertaining station that distributed information and made valid arguments against specific proposals and statements. Turns out that this is just a station full of the moderate Democrat versions of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. Listening to whoever the hell is on tonight at 10:30 pm Central, I heard him refer to Republicans as idiots, America-haters, and tasteless morons more times in a minute than I could count. What the hell happened? I could have sworn that the Democratic Party was the party of common sense and deceny. Have so many sunk so low? Yeah, I think Tom DeLay is a crook. So do the majority of people even in his district now. Why call him such every 5 freaking seconds? And stop complaining saying that George W. Bush "stole" the past two elections. In reality, Al Gore lost the 2000 election because he couldn't even win his home state and John Kerry lost the 2004 election because he had the charisma of a brick. Stop complaining about losing and start thinking about how in the hell we're going to win back Congress next year and the White House in three years. Or are we just going to get stuck in this rut where we become the Chicago Cubs of the US political scene, the loveable losers? Yes, we are in bad shape. Yes, bad policy decisions have been made both by the Republicans in Congress alone and some with the aid of the Democrats. If we started differentiating on the issues, if we started making common sense arguments against stupid proposals, and if we stopped our constant bitching about how unfair the past two elections were boo hoo hoo, maybe we could actually win back some voters and respect. But I guess it's just easier to sink to the level of Rush et al, isn't it?

You sort of hit the nail on the head... The Dems claim to be so much smarter than all of us but where are the intellectual arguments? Where is the intelligent debate? It is just name calling, so I don't listen to them.

I don't listen to the right wing nutjobs either because most of them aren't much better.

Quoting Texan (Thread starter):

ummm when?

Quoting Texan (Thread starter):
John Kerry lost the 2004 election because he had the charisma of a brick.

That's giving him a LOT of credit...

This is why I have gone from a Republican to a Democrat to a person w/out a party.
They are both money grubing whores and this country deserves it's fate if it continues to allow these two parties (as they are now) to continue.

Amen to that! And bravo to the thread starter...in this age where political attack dogs would crucify you for saying such things, that was very brave. Now tick away the seconds for the hard-core liberals and neo-conservatives to hijack this thread with their venom and dismiss you as a fence sitter.

First, for perspective let me say...
Had you talked to me a year or two ago, I would have said that I am (mostly) a Republican. I used to listen to the right wing nuts all the time, even after I unofficially switched from republican to non-partisan. Hannity and Limbaugh often said things I disagreed with, but I liked hearing current events talked about and it was entertaining. During the run up to the 2004 election, I really began to get irritated with the righties. The nail in the coffin was the Terri Schiavo case, Hannity and Beck both spewed lie after unfounded lie about that woman and her husband - all in the name of a pro-life agenda, not because they really cared about her. About that time, my area got Air America, which I (cautiously) started listening to. I enjoy it more than the right wing stuff, mostly because, while they both lie, at least the Dems don't judge you as morally deficient if you disagree with them. Hannity and the rest have an air of arrogance that I now find repulsive. That being said, there is an awful lot of misinformation on Air America also, and most of the hosts I don't even like. I do enjoy Randi Rhodes though more than the rest of them - though even she is not perfect by any stretch.

AMEN!!! IF anyone believes either party is looking out for our best interest, they would be wrong. Sure there are a few who are, but the rest of them are partisan morons, IMO. All they care about is the next election and how they will finance that election. Career politicians and having only two parties are tearing this country apart.

I think they are worse, because they still lie and twist and distort - but they also judge everyone who isn't on their side as being some sort of morally deprived monster.

The fanatisism of the left and the right in the USA is the reason we need, and probably will see a third, more moderate party in the next election or so.

Most Americans are moderate in reality. Everyone has bits of both parties they agree with.

Texan:

You are referring to Mike Malloy. I can't stand the bastard, either. All he does is shout insults at the right and does not really bring up any valid points. I listen to Air America on KPOJ in Portland. I look forward to Randi Rhodes. Here, she is on from 3PM to 7PM. I also listen to Majority Report but Jeanine Garafalo is a bit of an extremist. But, I do my damnedest to not listen to Mike Malloy.

*ONE* reason I believe Kerry lost the election is not his charisma but because a majority of Americans only had exposure to him via television. The "fair and balanced" outlet especially would spin Kerry as having little or no personality. I listened to the debates on the radio and to hear Kerry speak was exciting! Compared to Bush, Kerry was brilliant!

But, compare anyone to Bush in a public forum and the opponent sounds brilliant. Bad example.

Sound bites of Kerry just sounded more comforting. He sounded genuinely excited.

Another reason I believe Kerry lost the election is Ohio. Where is the paper trail? Why is it that in some precincts there were more votes cast than registered voters?

But, trust me about Air America: turn off Mike Malloy. He is just as bad as Rush.

GO CANUCKS!!
