Yobs Today

Fri May 20, 2005 8:45 pm

Was thinking this before, why is is any nice/decent person of security (say us spotters) or any other "normal" person always gets attacked by these damn yobs who are now "ruling" the street, were intimidated and assaulted and the police do nearly nothing.
We work hard and try and be decent people, and yet these yobs practically get everything for free (I wonder where they get the money for their "bling bling" Ford or all the gold they wear,) its because WE pay them, us taxpayers who are also the victims of them.
So my proposal is this, for every criminal record a chav/scally gets then they get paid less £5 or w/e on benefits, and then thatll hit it where it hurts.
Anyone else thinks its a good idea?
Its not the fall that kills u, its the sudden stop at the end..

Frankly, the little shits that get benefit WITHOUT actually ever having worked should have it removed forthwith, guilty of a crime or not. Many of the people on benefit these days are on it because they cannot be arsed to get a job. Not only does it reduce the amount available for the genuine people who need benefit through no fault of their own, it also gives absolutely no incentive for them to get work.

Personally I would hang the little bastards, but I'm just an old softy.

I agree. Our government is in a pretty poor state. Its a cycle of death - These kids go out drinking at weekends, get pissed, start fights. Police called. Assaults are made. Ambulance called. Professional staff then get assualted. Little buggers get locked up, then complain that they have been assaulted. Creates a strain on both Police and Emergency resources, when they should be out fighting real crime, saving real lives.

Put more money into the Services and lock up the scroats!

We could always ship them off somewhere. There's an island in the Irish Sea that isn't too far away. Even better, we could send the whole disfunctional ASBO'd family as well, to save them having to visit their little darlings too often!  duck

Agree! The police should also have the powers to give the little buggers a good hiding!

This is always an interesting debate..

There is always a lot of talk about what to do with the yobs to punish them, but rarely much analysis on how to stop the problem occuring in the first place

This is a problem with society, and reduction of benefits etc. could simply be replaced with unlawful methods of generating cash.

As the governement has made 'yobbism' one of their key targets over the next few years, it'll be interesting to see what is proposed and what actually happens.

As a discussion point.... Some airliners.net members come from countries where a period of national service is compulsory... do they think this could help?

... that will be the same government that has eroded the power of parents, teachers, the police and anyone else who used to have some authority and respect to enforce discipline. Makes you laugh to hear Tony go on about respect!

It's always impressive how people who were once the teenagers the adults hated turn into the adults who hate the teenagers.

Teddyboys, Mods and Rockers, Punks, Mods (again), Skinheads....the list goes on. And the one common denominator is always that the perceived wisdom is that the world is coming to an end.

Sometimes it's not as bad, sometimes it's a little worse, but always, always, it's regarded as catastrophic at the time.

I think national service would be an option, but 1940s-1950s style with sergeant majors with real powers (f*ck up and do 300 push ups or 5 hours of drill in full kit in the mud and sun, with everything having to be spotlessly clean one hour after).
