Luxor Hotel - Tower Or Pyramid Rooms?

Sun May 22, 2005 5:11 am

Can someone who has stayed at Luxor in Vegas tell me if the pyramid or Tower rooms are better?

Thanks

Well, the standard rooms tend to be pretty equally equipped in both tower and pyramid. The towers are newer though, so I might give them a try. Then of course you dont get to use those 'inclinators' inside the pyramid though!! I would personally say go with the tower rooms. They are a bit quieter and more secluded than the pyramid rooms.

I stayed at Luxor last year and can tell you two things...

1. Stay elsewhere. They were not as guest service oriented as at other hotels, and I've stayed at plenty in Vegas, and actually downright unpleasant on occasion from the bell captain to the valet to the front desk. If money is an object try the Monte Carlo....very nice and reasonably priced. If a theme hotel is on your mind the MGM or New York New York are right in the area. Mandalay Bay has good specials, and is a really great place, with an incredible swimming pool area.

2. If you insist, stay in the towers. The inclinators are interesting concepts but you have zero perception of anything different than an ordinary elevator. Be aware that the entire place is due for a good cleaning and a serious update.

DL021,

Last time I went to Vegas was about 2 years ago. So I guess I've been a bit behind. Have you seen the rooms at Treasure Island?

Stayed at Luxor during the NASCAR weekend last year.

I stayed in the pyramid just so I could ride the inclinators.    The initial thrill was cool, and just as quickly, was passed. So, if you're hell bent to stay there, it doesn't matter.

Rooms are very well appointed in either place - shower was definitely big enough for 2 people  bigthumbsup .

Excellent Asian restaurant one level up from the lobby. Very nice pool.

That said, damn sure not worth the   . Over priced, over rated, dirty, definitely not customer friendly . . . there are better properties for the money in Vegas . . . much better. Stay elsewhere.

Last time I stayed at TI was three years ago....and it was decent. I just stayed at Monte Carlo a couple weeks ago on business. Its pretty nice, and the people were exceptionally guest oriented. Believe it or not Harrahs is a very nice place to stay as far as how they treat you, and its pretty inexpensive for the strip....although not anything special it is clean and friendly.

Mandalay Bay is very nice and has terrific pools.

Weekday prices at Caesars are about $165, and the rooms are nice.

Alot of those hotels are in need of renewal, we stayed in a suite at Paris in February that was just beginning to show seed.

Oh, and do not stay, for any reason other than poverty, at Bourbon Street. Nice people but the place is a cordial dump.

Hey.....if you gots the $ go get a room at the Wynn. It is spectacular!

Go see the flower exhibit at Bellagio, and make sure you do the rides at the top of the Stratosphere. Oh, and Penn and Teller are hugely funny and Manilow out at the Hilton is actually a great show. Don't tell anyone I said that tho!  Wink

The Luxor sucks! I live in Vegas in the winter and that hotel sucks!  thumbsdown

The rooms are nothing great and the service, food and casino are terrible. If you must stay do the pyramid things. To ride in the inclinators is a kewl experience.

I agree! The Luxor looks spectacular from the outside but isn´t more than an average hotel from the inside. You can get much better deals at Las Vegas.

This site has a pretty good guide to the hotels, as does www.cheapovegas.com.

If you want to be in the middle of everything go with Caesar's, the Flamingo, or Harrah's. I've heard both good and bad for the I.P. Myself, I prefer a little further north up the Strip (I like the Riveria for its' history and the fact that it's a fairly standard hotel, as I don't need all of frills and pampering; the gambling there is alright, I did better at the Stardust) and hopefully I'll be able to make it out there sometime towards the end of the year (probably in November or December).

Blue Man Group is moving this year to a hotel with a canal running through it.

Anyone can ride the inclinators – even if you are not staying there.

A must see between M-Bay and Lux are the shops. Be sure to check out the $60 burger and the Art of Shaving.

The Luxor is where I fell last year, prompting a Cat scan which discovered my 2” brain tumor.

The Venetian. Nice place, but I'm never gambling there again, as I lost nearly $100 in less than 10 minutes there at the Craps table.

Mandalay Place is nice, I unfortunately wasn't able to get a shave at The Art of Shaving, as they were booked the day I wanted to get their Royal Shave. Next time I go to Las Vegas, I plan on calling in advance to get an appointment there.

I've never had a bad time or paid too much at Luxor...and had a quite nice room.

Every time i've stayed there we were in the Pyramid, and the last time our room looked out over the airport.

Yeah the flower exhibit kicks ass. The first time Bellagio opened, I was under 18 and they were strict as hell about it then.

I usually have been going once a year with family or friends but for some strange reason I haven't had a chance to go since the New Years Eve 2003, especially for being so close.

I looked at prices and I think I will go with MGM. After Vegas as a whole got rid of that "family atmosphere," I think MGM would be a better place since my younger brother is only 13.

P.S. For any of you wanting to go to Vegas this New Years Eve, it aint all that great.

I stayed at the Luxor and I have to say that it sucked, the room was totally worn out (wallpapers peeling of the wall, a chair was damaged...) and I didn't like the hotel as a whole.

Next time when I am in Vegas I will check out the MGM or the New York New York.

Patrick,

I have stayed in just about every hotel on the strip. Try the Monte Carlo. Very good hotel for the money. Location is awesome. Service and room are nice and the rate is very fair. MGM is good too but a little more money.

I'll second that. I think I mentioned earlier that I just spent a week at Monte Carlo, and while it is not spectacular in the way Bellagio and The Venetian are it was very nice and the staff seemed very nice and accomodating. I'd stay there again, since the price was right too.
