Cheap Cars W/ 2-Zone Temp Control

Sun May 22, 2005 6:38 am

Today's vehicle trivia quiz: what fairly inexpensive cars/SUV's can be had with dual-zone climate control, i.e. different temperatures for driver and passenger? I'm not in the market for a new car quite yet, but this will be a major factor for me as my wife and I differ greatly in our temperature preferences. By the way, I was pleasantly surprised that my 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo had this feature. I still have it, but it is starting to require some expensive repairs.

I am guessing maybe Buick Regal, Ford 500, Chrysler 300... others???

Thanks!

I know that the Ford Five Hundred and the Freestyle have it on the Limiteds..along with heated seats. I'm not sure about the SELs.

I believe the new Volkswagon Jetta has it and so does the New Mustang though I am not sure. I know all of the Lexus's have it, but I dont know about anyother cars.

Hyundai and kias have them on the more expensive models- around $17,000.

If you consider that inexpensive.

Sadly, the Buick Regal is no longer in production, it did offer the 2 zone Climate controls as an option, but I'm sure that its Lacrosse successor either offers it as an option or standard equipment on one of their trim levels. As a matter of fact, most GM mid and full-size cars (the latter I would personally call large-mid-sizes) offer this feature as an option. GM's SUVs (mid-size and up) probably offer the feature in their options list.

According to Ford's website, it is standard on both the SEL and Limited models of the Five Hundred. It's also standard on the soon-to-be-dropped T-Bird. No other Ford car, including the full-size Crown Vic., offers it for 2005. Dual climate controls are available as an option for nearly every Ford SUV except the Escape.

On Mercury's end, dual climate control is only available on the Montego and Mountaineer.

I believe all Lincolns offer it.

My Audi A3 has it and its excellent. Actually I found it most useful in winter - I like to be cool when driving but my other half prefers to be warm as a passenger. This way everybody is happy.  Smile

If it's standard on my A3, then I suspect the likes of the new Golf/Jetta as VW group cars will have it at least as an option and probably standard on higher spec models.
