Kieron,

I was so sure you were a sensible, polite young lad. Now I realise you are akin to Gkirk, Pe@rson and the other yoofs that populate the forums and mercilessly harangue us old, sensible people. Now you get kicked from live chat!!!!!! What is the world coming too?

Tighten up laddie, or it's down the pokey on a fizzer for you young fella me lad!!!!!!!!! Big grin

Never. Had posts and threads deleted, in sometimes what I consider to be suspect circumstances. I recently had one deleted as it was supposedly a gkirk sheep joke, despite the fact there was no mention of sheep. You mention animals and gkirk in the same sentence and your asking for trouble. oops.

A little more than 4 years here, and not a single banning after 6635 posts (including this one.). I have typed out longwinded rants that had I not come to my senses before posting them, probably would have gotten me banned for a time or two (Thank goodness for the "preview" feature!). There's some that did get deleted, but I reposted afterwards with the post toned down to soften the message.

I think it's absurd that particular mods - surely mod should stand for 'moderate' and not 'moderator'? - generally act unfairly and unreasonably in the execution of their roles, and in fact pretend they are God. It is a forum on the Internet for goodness sake.

I was banned shortly for posting a picture of Lindsay Lohan. Yet, on other posts I saw offensive language and some porno on one question about a 911 call a few days ago. banghead  It really kills you especially when you know you payed money for this site and they don't allow you to post. They should be more forgiving because we payed money and no one else charges money to be in an aviation forum. I think they forget that.

As for Airliners.net, I've only been banned once or twice for a week.

I haven't been banned yet... but I fear my day will come because other than my college buds, this place is a great stress reliever. I guess most of you who have read my posts note that I get quite passionate about things at times topics include:

Religion + Politics...

both of which are definitely trouble when attempting to keep debates civil.

I personally I think I am the polite type... I've never once launched a direct personal attack against any member, but I have attacked ideas and opinions. Also, with the degree of anonymity afforded by this forum I think I have a tendency to type words I would never say. I rarely swear unless I'm in the last rep of an exercise at the gym (even then it's the tamer types of embellishments), but recently I've noticed that my more passionate posts have been sprinkled with a curse word or two.

I've been banned, in part, because I do sometime step over the edge with some more "colorful metaphors" to quote Mr. Spock from Star Trek IV. But another reason is the fact that I don't mince words, I don't believe in sparing peoples' feelings when arguing a point, and, on this point, I don't think it's fair, I'm judged more harshly by certain mods based on reputation.

I know for a fact I've been banned for saying things that other users have gotten away with, simply because they have a better rep. I don't think it's fair, but c'est la vie, I guess-you have to play by the rules of the jungle.

I haven't. I try not to get in arguments with people about stuff, even if what they're saying does wind me up - I don't see the point in causing rifts with people I don't even know. It's much more satisfying to just sit here and think "what a complete pillock you are, pal". I did have a bit of a row with someone when I first joined, but it turned out I'd mis-read something, causing a misunderstanding and I apologised straight away.

As for letting off steam, I do that in my blog. Nobody can have a go at me for ranting in there, although I do try not to say anything libellious (particularly as it's on a University server and I don't want to get into trouble with the uni.)

Could also be that forum users are more likely to use the "suggest deletion" button on your posts, given the subject matter and your aforementioned reputation.  Wink

Also, I think a couple of mods will notice when skirmishes boil over and start keeping an eye on the combatents... I've gotten most of my post deletions that way.

Does anyone remember DALnet? It's an IRC chat network. I was a chan op on its first and original channel from 1997 to 2000; it had something to do with space...the final frontier. Like here, there was a small, tight group of "regulars" who were on a first name basis with each other. Some were face-to-face friends.

Here's the fun part. Sixteen of us regulars decided to have a meet in San Francisco from December 27, 1999 to January 3, 2000. Perfect! Spend Y2K in the city where Starfleet Command is based.

http://map.parts-unknown.org/starfleet/www.ex-astris-scientia.org/gallery/unknown/san_francisco.jpg

I planned all the air travel and the hotel for everyone. People came from BFD, SAT, YYZ, SYD, SEA, SAN, MSP, and other places. It all came together perfectly. We all arrived at SFO within a six hour period! Unfortunately, I loaned someone (another chan op) some money while there   . Afterwards, he was taking a little too long to pay it back. I started bashing him in the channel. The owner of the channel (DALnet's founder) felt it didn't look good for one chan op to be bashing another. I had my chan op status permanently revoked. I still bashed him. I was eventually banned and was later unbanned, but it was never the same again. I never did get my money. However, time heals all wounds. He later said he had the money and was ready to send it to me, but didn't because of the crappy way I was treating him.

DALnet has since become passé with the evolution of more sophisticated chat programs. DALnet is very susceptible to nukes and floods. BTW, remember when a.net was really slow on March 26, 2005? Here's the thread. A DALnet server that's shared by a.net got nuked and/or flooded, which ate up an enormous amount of bandwidth.

Mark

I got in a bit of trouble for a remark regarding Canadians, nukes, and maple syrup. After that I concentrated on the French/Airbus, which then got me in trouble. Now I try to tow the line with an occasional rant about the poor management of Midwest Airlines.

Three times:

once by VC-10, but was revoked within minutes as he accidentally clicked on my name though he wanted to ban WellHung for those moving images (  bigthumbsup  )

second time by 174thwulff, and I think 99 % of posters of that particular thread (Iraq war) got banned.. I received only three days

third time by KROC for 7 days, who in that particular case proved to be completely biased.. I was very disappointed of him

I don´t know what this means : But as I was writing a post shortly there was a warning I have never noticed before : "Last Warning: Do not post in here unless you are capable of expressing yourself in a civilized manner. Our rules will be strictly applied and you will be banned permanently and without warning if you violate them."

Is that new ? I have never had any problems or used bad language or anything ?

Dang, I feel left out now . . . .

I've cussed, called people Morons - but the target is now perma-banned at A-Net (libschmuckasshole) - I've talked crap about Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Foreigners, Locals, Farmers, Hillbillies, City-Folk, Left Coast, Right Coast, Midwest, Pig Farmers, Corn Growers, people that fly Southwest, people that don't fly Southwest, Catholics, Presbyterians (that would be me), Jews, Baptists - especially those damn hypocritical Southern Baptists - Muslims, Athiests . . . dang near everyone . . .

I still can't get meself banned . . . .

Ha Ha Ha . . .

Of course - for any mod reading this, this post is done strictly as humor, it is not in any way meant to be a signal that I desire nor want to be banned for 1 minute, 1 day, 1 week or 1 month - or God forbid - forever . . . just a small flash of the obvious . . . I of course love and respect all the moderators . . . and would never ever do anything to cause myself to be banned by one of our illustrious forum gurus  sarcastic

Dang what must a man do to become part of the club????
