Pubs and clubs in the UK are going to ban happy hours in an effort to curb binge drinking. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4571989.stm
Other cheap drink promotions and free drinks are also likely to be banned too.
I don't go to the pub that often so it won't affect me too much, but I don't like to pay over the odds for my beer and that is what this will mean. Happy hours were designed to get the punters in. If the pubs don't get the punters then their profits will fall, which means they will put prices up to compensate.
Not that I don't understand the reasons of course and a lot of the problems are of the pubs own making. Happy hour was supposed to be one hour, early in the evening. Happy hours that last four hours or so don't do anyone any favours though I fail to see the point of getting yourself smashed after being out a couple of hours when you have a whole evening to enjoy yourself.
Maybe I'm getting old.
