Happy Victoria Day (Canada)

Tue May 24, 2005 7:20 am

To our friends in Canada, HAPPY VICTORIA DAY!  bigthumbsup

…and everyone would gather
on the 24th of May
Sitting in the sand to watch the fireworks display
Dancing fires on the beach, singing songs together
Though it’s just a memory some memories last forever

May 2-4, baby! All good Canadians are at the cottage (or "at camp", if you're in Northwestern Ontario) this weekend, drinking a 2-4 of beer.  Smile
But that was when I ruled the world

It's a miserable day here.

Superfly,
Thanks for the well-wishes.

The tradition is a "two-four" of beer, not a 12-pack. As Victoria Day is technically on the 24th of May, we call the weekend, "May 'two-four'".
You're just going to have to drink another twelve buddy.

Its cool to get a day off, but I believe in Quebec its called Patriot Day?

I may be wrong, I was just listening to some Quebecois and I swear they refereed to it as Patriot Day. The Queen's not that popular herewould you believe!?

Yes that's right... it's actually Victoria Secret Day but in honor of the American way we abbreviated it.

Thanks Superfly!

I went for a nice bike ride through the rolling prairies of Saskatchewan today. Rainy and then sunny, still and then windy, typical prairie day - but loving it!
Next flight.... who knows.

Well, it's all winding down now... Just a few rogue fireworks explosions here n there. When I got home I had to elevate the general alert to orange (garden hose at the ready) because you never know when some rocket scientist might send a stray firework in the wrong direction only for it to land on someone's roof. I suppose it's a good thing it mostly rains on May 2-4 long week-end.
Thanks for the well wishes, 'Fly & others  thumbsup
As for hooking-up - It would indeed be quite the party with all those members mentioned... Including our very own (infamous) YYZ717, Gmonney, AirbusFanYYZ.... and yes, also EmiratesA345. And don't be knocking our Belle province (as I like to call it)... They do know how to party. Some of the best celebrations are in Quebec. The Montreal Grand Prix is a damn good time and the Montreal Jazz festival is one of the best in the world. I hope to check out the Mtl jazz-fest this year... along with their cari-fest (which is lame compared to TO's caribana, by the way).
Anyway.... Cheers!

Thanks for the good wishes, Superfly. We semi-officially opened up our cottage just north of Muskoka (Ontario) this long weekend, and we had a blast with our neighbours up there. Good friends, barbeques galore, fireworks, wine and champagne, and but of course, good ole Molson Canadian beer! Although I am partial to Stella Artois, I thought I'd be a good Canuck and stick with the home brew. The weather was cool/cold, but that didn't stop us, as we donned our Canuck caps had a good ole bonfire going full blast, and sang "This Land Is Your Land, this land is my land, from Bona Vista, to the Vancouver Islands!". LOL.

The funny thing about you, an SFOer posting this is that we are know very seriously considering moving to your neck of the woods in the next year. We're looking at homes/properties in the Sausalito-Marin County area later this summer, and I have to say that area and SFO excites us very much.

Anyhoo, thanks for the Victoria 2-4 greeting.

Ciao from Canuckland

It would be great to have you down here!
Marin County is beautiful with lots of hills, forest, bike trails, nude beaches, great views, very liberal-minded people and great views.
You'll need to bring at least $800,000 (U.S.) with you. Marin County isn't cheap. It's one of the most expensive counties in the entire country.

LOL, ah, I think we'll skip the nude beaches part, but I agree, Marin County is by far an incredibly beautiful place, and we've spent many a great time there.
We love the fact that SFO is but a Golden Gate drive away, and the beautiful beaches (such as Bodega Bay) are but a scenic drive via the Napa. It will mean commuting to and from Los Angeles, but we've agreed L.A is definitley not for us (to live). In regards to very Liberal minded people, Sausalito/Marin has them in spades - fantastic people, We never fail to be impressed by the warm and welcoming people we have met (far more friendlier than Toronto, I'm very sorry and embarrassed to say). and, the area has great schools. We're flying to SFO in August to see properties with the real estate agent, so hopefully it will all pan out sooner than we anticipated.

Canuckpaxguy,

Our cottage is located about 7 kms from Burk's Falls and only 20 km from the north entrance to Algonquin Park. We share a serene and pretty large lake with 5 other cottages (that surround it). LOL, each resident has a different name for this lake (it's an on-going friendly battle) and I have deemed it "Crystal Lake", for its clarity and cleanliness, and also after the name of the lake in the 80's slasher movie, "Friday The 13th" ("Thanks for the ride, I'm going to Camp Crystal Lake!" - "Chee Chee Chee- Haa Haa Haa Haa!")- just call me twisted. So yeah, we're definitely north of the main Muskoka region, and we very much like the fact that the area is still pretty well undeveloped.
Anyhoo, look's like it's going on the market by late fall.

Cheers,
Canadi>nBoy

I saw Victoria Day and got all excited thinking it was something like this:

It blows that this holiday is just to celebrate the queen. If it was a day to celebrate something cool like victorias secret models I would soooo become Canadian.
Things were better when it was two guys in a dorm room.
