What Are You Doing For Memorial Day Weekend?

Tue May 24, 2005 8:15 am

What are you doing for Memorial Day Weekend? ...Subtitled, do you have any suggestions as to what to do? A few airline friends and I are trying to go somewhere exotic and we have two requirements:

1) No visas required

2) There needs to be a good chance of getting a seat on said flight(s)

We're all in Denver so getting to a international departure city might be the toughest part. ...And BA/LH are booked solid out of here. The top contenders now are anywhere QF flies, Barcelona or Madrid, Buenos Aires, Guayaquil, Oslo, Dakar, or Taiwan.

I'll be takig the camper out this Thursday - likely going to the Seward, Alaska. Will do a little fishing, lots of drinking and BBQing, more fishing, and relaxing . . .

I am guaranteed a seat - I own the truck and camper  biggrin

No Visa Required - although an Alaska Fishing License is necessary.

Weather is supposed to be excellent . . . mid-60s(f) and no rain. . . .

Have a great Memorial Day everyone . . .

My girlfriend is dragging me to her parents house, should be a miserable weekend of utter boredom capped off by a throbbing headache around mid afternoon Saturday. I am presently resisting this but she will probably guilt me into it by Friday afternoon and I will give in because I am a huge pussy.

I don't know what is planned down there, I don't especially care because no matter what it is I would have more fun sitting on my ass here.

Well it's not a holiday up here in Canada as we have our May long-weekend this weekend. (Victoria Day Weekend)

But for me and my buddies, next Sunday is RACE DAY and we'll be in front of the TV for the day, with a good case of beer, pizza, munchies etc.

First up at 7:30 am EST is the European Formula One GP from Nurenberg.

Then the INDY 500 from Indianapolis.

Followed by the Coca Cola 600 NASCAR in the evening.

What a great day's racing if you're a true race fan.

The benefit to having my camper for fishing trips is the satellite dish affixed thereto  bigthumbsup . Sunday will be a day for fishing early in the morning, Indy mid-morning (Alaska time rememeber), BBQ early afternoon (the morning's catch), and Coca Cola 600 late afternoon. IF I'm still sober after that, I might have to put a line in the water - again  biggrin

I'm flying to San Diego, CA on Friday morning. 4 day weekend for me. Luckily I got a seat on my flight from ORF-ATL since there were only two seats on the MD88, so I got one. The ATL-SAN flight is almost full, no window seat for me, but I got an aisle seat on the 767-300. The weekend is pretty much spending time with my family. Saturday we're going to Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Sunday we're going to Sea World..It's free becuase military personnel gets in free at any participating Sea World. Monday im helping moving a piano to the house then after that a little chill time, then head to the airport Monday night to catch my redeye back home just in time for work.

Going to Lake Havasu to get drunk, go wakeboarding and try my English accent out on some 'low morals' American chicks.

Then going to Pinetop, AZ to recover and go quad biking.

Rather tell you about last years weekend: renting a pop-up camper to tow behind my antique truck and explore the UP of Michigan. This weekend I will be selling appliances at Sears. What a difference a year makes, but at least I am working

The same exact things I do every weekend during this time of year:

1) mow the front yard
2) pull up stray crab grass in the front yard
3) edge and weedeat the front yard
4) leaf blow the driveway and sidewalk in the front yard
5) weedeat the back yard
6) mow the backyard
7) that evening, water both yards if no recent rain (which these days is the case)

Exciting stuff, eh?!

On Saturday I'm going to the Orioles game vs. Detroit (go O's!), then am spending Sunday with friends, doing some backyard grilling, and plan on spending Monday bitching about having to go to work on Tuesday. Enjoy the weekend everyone.

BristolFlyer, you're going to like Lake Havasu. They even have a part of home there; the London Bridge. I'm sure you already know that though. Pinetop is a really cool little town. I'd even consider moving there.

I haven't been home for my birthday since I was 17, and this is my 25th on the 5th of June, so my wife and I are headed down there. Actually, I'm really going to the Globe/Miami area (way East of Apache Junction). I'm just flying into Phoenix. We're having a cookout up towards the Salt River/Roosevelt Lake where the intake is, on the 4th of June.

I couldn't believe the airfare down there though. I got real lucky... $408 roundtrip from Seattle on Frontier, with just a stop in Denver going both ways. Same travel dates and same flights on the same airline right now were $985 I think, the last time I checked. Southwest and America West, normally the two cheapest into PHX were averaging $650-700+.

No I haven't- I've lived in the DC area almost my whole life, and have a hard time giving up my allegiance to the Orioles- I think the only time I will get to RFK is if Pittsburgh is in town (my fiancee and her family are Pirates fans)- and their only visit this season is a mid-week series. Hopefully next season the scheduling gods will send Pittsburgh here over a weekend. (And the irony here is I had to sell tickets I had to an O's game in June because my boss is sending me to Montreal that day Sad )

I flew my large American flag (10 feet by 15 feet). It makes a major statement in my neighborhood any many love it. I took the time to remember those who have fallen and I am so thankful for their sacrifice that allows me to have freely flown that huge American flag on such a beautiful day here in Hawaii.
