It's a laptop, Dell Inspiron 1100. Out of 650 megs of memory, it is using about 30%. 6% of the hard drive is empty. On average the CPU is at 20% or less, except when the fan turns on it spikes to about 90% and sits there for about a few minutes.
Right now, all I got is the internet running, that's it, 15 processes. The fan is medium now, but the bottom is way hot. I could keep food warm with it.
I can't place it on anything, the fan runs on high almost all the time, damn loud. I was on the floor one time and held up the vents with an old cassette box, it melted a bit of the plastic.
These days I do unconventional crap like sit the thing in a table fan's face and set it for low. That way it cools it a bit. A bit, fan still runs on high, in fact according to Dell diagnostics CD
, the fan speed failed by being too fast; regularly at 6300 rpm. I think the motor expells just enough heat to cool itself down.
I do AdAware scans twice a day, I had to uninstall the Norton Antivirus because it took up too much memory, it made my machine run hotter.
Edit: oh yeah, I did think of laptop coolers. Upon investigation, i found that those devices suck heat from below, then out and away. My one fan suck from below and blows to the back. Though it may cool the memory, I'd end up choking the cpu fan.
I do not have the funds for a new computer, I want a desktop, maybe I do not have to deal with this. It bugs cuz I think this thing wil just die one day when I'm unprepared. I'm considering backing up everything now...but I know I'll loose things like the playcount in the windows media player, I need that.
