Baby Pets Chewing On Your Stuff :-)

Wed Jun 08, 2005 3:05 pm

Hahaha, here is what happened this WE.
While on a phone conversation with her mom, UTAette was casually told the new Lapinou (Kisscool) was "so cute", "he's currently chewing on some old ski shoes, he's having so much fun".

UTAette : Ahhh ? What do these look like ?

Mom : Well, they're old pair of ski shoes with some fleece inside, which the Lapinou seems to like, he's currently inside the shoe and nibbling the side of it ! How cute !

UTAette (feeling suddenly afraid) : Would those shoes be green by any chance ?
Mom : Well yes ! DO you know who forgot them at our house !

UTAette : RHAA Mother, those are MY shoes !
Mom : WHouPs ! oh well, he's already done quite a bit of damage already ! Would you like me to remove them from him ?

UTAette (sighing) : No, let him be, I'll just buy another pair next winter ! Rhaa !

Has such an occurrence ever happened to you ?
My former lapinou Jojo did one better, he managed to chew up the wallpaper when I was away  Smile

Froufrou, my sister's late lapinou did some nice damage once.

He was left roaming in my sister's room where I was having some computer tweaking (understand open towers, SCSI wires coming from the tower to an external SCSI HD... you name it).

So one morning, I found the lapinou with quite a happy look on his face, and two feet from him a computer that just would not start up.

Written off : - SCSI wire
- mouse

Damaged but still usable : keyboard

Escaped : Power cord (yummy, a 220V fried lapinou ?)

Hehe..looks like you guys have some serious "baby pet chewing stuff" trouble.

Nope..I don't have any pets, so I don't have to worry about stuff getting chewed....

I was looking after a friends dog (golden retriever), and I had left a few pages of the Times on the table as I needed them for a law essay I was writting. Well, the dog decided to play with the paper, and shreeded it to bits. If I wasnt the only one there I would have accused my flat mate of doing it. It was shreded soo small, and was everywhere.

When my hamster was a baby, she used to chew on my hand, regularly. She still does.

My rabbit has torn wallpaper off a wall and eaten it. And also tried the electrical cable for our iron, but he kept getting told off for that so worked out it probably wasn't a good idea.

He also chewed the bottom of the gates keeping him in the back garden so he can escape through them - the holes are now blocked with breezeblocks!

Kitchen table and chairs.....many shoes......and power cords...But being a minature Dauchshund I did not have to move stuff very high for him to get at them. I am still pissed at the table though..

Sometimes all you can do is look them in the eye and ask " how much did your mom drink when she was pregnant with you?"

When I was a kid, we used to have ababy lapinou, the wild grey variety (Mrs Lapinou decided to build her nest right under the slide on our children´s play ground. Of course the kids found the baby rabbits and caressed them, being so cute. The problem is that they adopt a human smell and the mother will not come back to them anymore, so the baby lapinous were distributed among the families.). This lapinou wasmore intelligent than normal bred lapinous, much more agile (it played chase with our cat, really a game, the cat would touch it), but it also knew how to climb into book shelves. When it started to chew on the valuable old books of my father, one day my mother "accidentaly" left the door to the garden open, while my brother and myself were at school.

I had a retarded hamster when I was younger and it somehow escaped from it's cage, as they do, crawled up stairs, into the airing cupboard and went into the loft. It then bit through some electrical wiring and popped the fuse downstairs, boom, all the lights go out.

The last time I saw the creature it was in my cats mouth and being dragged outside where it was killed in an Al Quaeda stylee. Sad

Poor thing.

Dogs will chew up anything. Keep a vigilant eye and give them plenty to entertain themselves with. My 6 month old wheaten hasn’t chewed anything she shouldn’t – yet (knock on wood). I keep her either outside or supervised.

There is a product called ‘pet taste deterrent’ that smells like bitter apple. Spray it on something that your pet is going at and he/she will avoid it – shoes are a good candidate. My puppy, Lady, started going at my wiring leading to my satellite outside. I just spread a tiny amount of hand lotion and put ground table pepper on it. She hasn’t touched it since.

At puppy kindergarten/boot camp she learned the commands ‘leave it’ and ‘drop it’ – I reinforce this by taking something out of her mouth she shouldn’t have (my shoes for example) and placing something she should have (a chew toy) in her mouth.

One of my mom's two Golden Retrievers (spelling?) always chew on paper towels and swallow them! one point, the dog managed to pick up a container of vaseline from the bathroom, licked, and swallowed all of it! My mom found the empty container on a flight of stairs ....

When I was a kid, we had a psycho puppy which chewed up a sofa, a mattress,
my exam notes (before the exam  mad  ), several house plants, all our socks, the neighbour's car seat (expensive leather) and two persian carpets.

She lived up the ripe old age of sixteen and died three years ago.

I have a macaw (large parrot) He destroyed a wooden rocking chair over a couple of days. My miniature Dachshund chewed a Malev 737-300 model and a helicopter model. They looked like little crash scenes when I got home. So, my new Lufthansa A380 is waaayyy out of reach now. Live and learn. The parrot chews on the dog sometimes.
