What Is Everyone's Profession And Why Do You Fly?

Thu Jun 09, 2005 7:08 am

I find that people on this forum fly alot, some on a weekly basis, even if they're not flightdeck or cabin crew.

So, I'm just interested in knowing what everyone does for a living, why do fly so frequently (for those of you who do) and where do you fly to?

My profession is a grey area somewhere between prostitution and bounty hunting.

I fly to break bread and drink grape juice.

Damn lucky one! Lufty thought I'm "too introverted" for an FQ even though I passed everything else the BU had to offer...  banghead  Suppose it's meant to be a nice way of saying "Thank you, but we hardly need employees."

See profile.

I've always liked planes and traveling.

In a different profession I traveled constantly. Literally, even commuting between DCA and CLT for work and (ex) wife. I put 200,000 miles a year or so aboard US, CO and occasionally NW and AA in the mid through late 1990s.

Now I'm retired from my previous life and still have to fly to work . . .  Smile

I work for a company that has plants and offices across Canada and in the US. Most of my flying for work is done on company aircraft. We have 2 jets and both are posted on A.net

I fly because it would take forever to walk, swim or let alone drive a car to Europe or to the East coast. However, visiting cutomers here in the southland is no problem.

Environmental Scientist. I don't fly as much as I'd like to, but I do fly to DC and Cincinnati to meet with my major clients a few times a year, and to various conferences. About half of my flights are for business, and half for pleasure. Well, they're all for pleasure, it just depends on what I do after I get there.

I work for a major software company providing backup and restore solutions. I help people figure out why re-directing their exchange server system state to their DC is a bad idea :|

I do not fly often at all save the trips I made as a part of the company DR team last year. My last LOGGED hour was in 1994.

I would fly (if I had the money) because you don't see things on the planet like you do up there. I also enjoy the freedom and responsibility.

I fly because I have always been infatuated by airplanes and flying -- ever since I could remember.

It's captivating to see a several thousand lb object climb into the sky by manipulating something so intangible as air. To be in control of the airplane is exciting, as you have the freedom to go just about anywhere and get away from your earthbound life, even if it's for just a little while.

My profession entails many things including software engineering, art, psychology, and business. Right now I work with fortune 1000 companies to increase their sales over the Internet. Specifically, I work on web sites so that they rank higher in the search engine rankings (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc...). Previously, I have been the webmaster for the University of Advancing Technology as well as a graphic designer and illustrator in other jobs. It's fun stuff. While I have considered becoming a professional pilot, I'm leaning more toward sticking with what I do now, and keeping aviation a hobby.

I think if I were to become a professional pilot, the freedom I see in aviation may be restricted. I like aviation because it symbolizes freedom in many ways, and I want to keep it that way.

I'm a student, I usually visit family in different parts of the country and overseas (I have family in India, South Africa and USA), and the cheapest and best way around Australia is by air...and flights are pretty cheap....

I'm a registered nurse and paramedic. I'm also an electrician (automotive and structural), but I do that as a hobby, now. I'm in the middle of rewiring a 12000 sq ft former car dealership that is now an EMS station. Converting 3-phase to single phase...oy!

I fly when I have to. I fly when I want to go somewhere. I fly for a hell of it.

I like European flights the best. The domestic ones are usually impulsive purchases when I discover I have a few extra bucks and a few days off.

Well, currently I am on break from school.

I've got three part time jobs.

1. Cleaning out horse stalls everyday at a barn.
2. Cleaning my dad's office complex.
3. Shooting weddings with a local photographer.

I fly for pleasure with friends and occasionally on airliners for vacation.

To pay the bills, I work as a test administrator in the mental health department of a state corrections facility.

Like TheCoz, I've been interested in flight since a very young age. My love affair began by wanting to be able to tell which type of airliner I was looking at while I waited at PIT for my connecting flight to CRW. I had to be about 10 or 11 at the time.

I had planned on making flying my career, but due to some unfortunate circumstances, I may not be able too.  crying

I fly whenever possible, and, living on an island, that is fairly often. Working for an airline helps Big grin

At the moment I'm unemployed, but I am currently trying to get an AFIS education. So I have a few flights to Oslo for testing and interviews etc. Other than that I don't really travel by air all that much.
