What The Hell Did I Ever Do To The World?

Thu Jun 09, 2005 12:40 pm

First of all, this is only me whining about whatever and nothing much else.

My wonderful last few weeks of grade 10 has involved...

-My dog got quite sick for a few days
-Gettin my photos on a.net has gone from challenging hard to impossible hard
-One of my friends wont stop laughing at me cos my shorter hair apparently makes my ears look bigger
-My 9-hole mini golf is going to hell in a hurry
-My bike getting stolen (I use it almost every day for loads of stuff during the summer, I can berily get shit done without it)
-I'm havin problems sleeping (and its exam time just about)
-I seem to be as unstraight acting as ever for some reason
-My other dog having some problems and needing to go to vet
-I'm having problems saving enough money for Europe next year (I've been wanting to do this for a long time, and I've been saving all the money I can for a while now, but at the rate I'm going all my work will be for nothing as I wont have the money soon enough)
-More and more of my friends seem to be not paying any attention to me at all
-My mom wants to sell half my shit in a garage sale this weekend

My only question is what have I done to deserve all this. Lately I've been trying hard to be a good person, and this is what I end up with. Fuck the world. Atleast I still have one good thing bout my life (for me to know about not you).

That is 10th grade in a nutshell...

Haha... I have outrageously large ears. Long hair does me well but I can't stand it, I know the feeling...  Wink

Dude..... Are you for real? I mean, I understand you are under a bit of pressure for some circumstances we ALL deal day after day but come on! I don't exactly consider a problem not getting some pictures in a website...

Have you heard about Murphy's law? I bet you have and feel under its command. Well... let me tell you; it doesn't exist; you are just focusing on the things that are going wrong and not on all those little success we achieve every second. When getting out of bed this morning, did you fell and broke a leg? No right? Don't lose time enlisting your dilemmas or difficulties, focus on what you can do to solve them.

James, between 16-20 the world seems to beak down on you; learn to see the big picture; it isn't that bad.

Dont think to much about it. Everyone has their down times. My last few weeks of school have also sucked. I had 5 A's a few weeks ago, but now I am hoping to finish off the semester with 3. Just finish off the school year, and then forget about everything over summer.

Dear Sir:

Shit happens.

If you think the 10th grade is tough, and the world is out to get you, just wait until you have bills to pay, mouths to feed (well, just one big one in my case - mine), jobs to keep, taxes to pay, etc. Personally, I long for my seemingly innocent and carefree days of high school.

Funny how a 21 year old is lecturing you on this...

Let's face it...you're healthy, you have a roof over your head, your stomach is full, you live in a safe country - you're better off than 75% of the rest of our species.

As for your friends ignoring you, its not a big deal...Go make more. So it might seem like a big task, but I guarantee you'll enjoy it.

When I want to forget about things I ussually go biking or something. Can't do that now. My goal for the summer get 10 pics on a.net. Given up on that now. My thing to look forward to is Europe. That might not happen now.

Yeah life sucks sometimes I know, in fact life has kinda sucked for me this past week. I badly injured my ankle and so now I've missed 5 days of school right before finals when I really need to be there! banghead  Now I probably going to end up failing math and going to summer school. On top of that I'll have to go through physical therapy for my ankle and WORK! banghead  But you know I'm ok with all of that. Like MrChips said, I'm healthy, I have a roof over my head, my stomach is full, and I live in a safe country. So what more could I really ask for? So next time you're mad at the world remember - SHIT HAPPENS! <---My favorite saying! bigthumbsup  bigthumbsup

Maybe your mom's trying to help you out by selling some shit so you can get a bike and/or go to Europe. The world is what you make it. Just relax and take it all with a grain of salt. It will get better if you want it too. Work hard. Everyone has these problems when they are younger. When you do get older these things will make you laugh.

His problems are valid. It is hard at a young age to have a realistic perception of life. He simply lacks experience. It's not his fault. As I said, everyone has had these problems.

My plan was to get a job and combine that with the savings and I might have enough. Europe tour is a school based thing, so I have to do it next year or the year after, and then thats it. Next year I can do easily, the year after I'll be in grade 12 and probably too busy dealing with some other issues.

It can seem like your up against it no matter how small your problems. All the little things build up and it can really get to you even though in reality it's nothing to worry about. It's basically just your over-active hormones and the pressure put on you by exams, it's nothing new. You're not the first to go through this and you definitely won't be the last!

Dude - get some perspective.

I'd imagine that you go to sleep every night with a roof over your head. You have food to eat. Clean water to drink. You live in Canada so you have health care. You have access to education.

That list alone puts you in the most fortunate top 20% of all man kind.

I ignored my parents when they told me this but I now know it to be true - your problems as a 10th grader are nothing but passing problems.

Think about what life would be like if you lived in central Africa with war and ethnic cleansing raging around you. Think about what life would be like if you weren't sure if there would be food on the table. Think about life if your mother came into your room and told you she had a brain tumor and would be dead in 3 months.

This too will pass. Take each day one at a time. Stay positive. Look for the good in everything and count your blessings not your problems. If you do, I'm sure you'll find that you have much more going for you than against you.

Dude...get some perspecitve. High school sucks most of the time. It's called "growing up". Not everyone will be your best buddy, your dog will die from time to time, your best friend will probably betray you at some point, your parents will most definately piss you off, your teachers will spring stupid tests on you, you'll probably fall in love with at least one girl you know is the one....And she'll dump you, and you won't get a date to at least one dance. If I've left anything out, I'm sorry. But GET THE HELL OVER IT!!!!!

get some perspective...blah blah blah.

yes he could think of the unfortuante kids that dont have what he has, yet he doesnt have to simply because he doesnt live in central africa.

as such, he is experiencing his fair share of issues within his lot in life and i feel it is totally warranted and he shouldnt have to justify why he feels his life has gone to crap this week.

now, canadiannorth, all i can say is your life probably isnt going as badly as you think, however you find one or two things going wrong and you quickly try to attribute all your other issues to the world being against you.

a little positive thinking does wonders.

plus you mom is having a garage sale soon? i'm sure you have some stuff you could get rid of to raise additional $$

Well, if it helps you at all, I've had an excellent week. My girlfriend and I...well never mind. My town continues to expend exhoribitant amounts of money (that it actually has) on a new system of Parkways, major renovations to our award winning high school, and a completely new downtown. And they just cut our property taxes from 2% to 1.5%. I just crushed the competition in my reelection run for President, and I received Awards of Outstanding Achievement in Geometry, Geography, Earth Science (Oceanography, Meteorology, Geology, Oceanography), Marketing, and English, as well as an Award of Special Recognition for receiving High Honors the first three terms of this year (we're still in the fourth term). And guess what, I'm around the same age as you. You can certainly change your life. Take charge.

Sometimes life chucks a crapper at ya, and ya have to take. it. Today, i have had a crap day at work, at 1am my housemate was mugged outside the house, so spent 4 hours in A & E with him, had 2 hours sleep (after waking up at 8am the day before) got to work 10 min late, but i had toldem why and they were fine, had a crap day, with people shouting. Got a headache. Then was stuck with a guy shouting for 40 min. Got home, and life isa bit better. I have this site (sad i know) but there are things to look forward to. Its my birthaytomorrow, and my first properly away from home as i wont be seeing any of my family. BUT im happy in the knoledge im going to be spending it with some very good mates, having a few beers at the Airport pub, then a few more at mine.

Life is crap sometimes, but then there are other times where it pays u back for keeping ur chin up. Tomorrow being one of em.

Ur doing fine, and are feeling what every other person in the world feels most of the time
Where does the time go???

Rule 1:
Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2:
The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3:
You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4:
If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5:
Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping - they called it opportunity.

Rule 6:
If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7:
Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8:
Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9:
Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very
few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on
your own time.

Rule 10:
Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee
shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11:
Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
I'm all in favour of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with keyboards.

I had some tough shit to deal with during my tenth grade year too...

- My grandmother died
- Involved in a pretty bad car wreck (not my fault); car was totaled but luckily I wasn't hurt at all.
- Got elbowed in the nose during a basketball game; nose broken, had to have surgery and missed rest of season.
- I usually make all A's and B's, but made mostly C's

Ah well, life goes on. There were plenty of good things to offset the bad things though.:DD Hope things get better for you, CanadianNorth.

What did you do ? You got born, that's what. Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans. Don't sweat it - early adulthood is a pain the ass, but don't worry, when you hit your late 20's and are earning your own money you're allowed to revert to childhood again (what a relief !)

Ohhhh, reading all this is taking me back to highschool. In grade 10 two guys asked me out, I said no to both, so they started an anti-'my name here' club. They even created a logo, wrote it everywhere in the school, sent it over computers etc. Then one of these guys, call him Jay, asked out my best friend, they end up dating for the next three or so years. Another guy gets pissed off with me for similar reasons I suppose, so he slams my head against a brick wall. Later, I started dating a guy 8 years older than myself, he drove me to school and picked me up. His presence helped stop all of this. A nice side effect of the relationship. In the end everyone chilled out and they apologized a few years later for acting like jerks. I hurt their egos and that caused a violent reaction but I wasn't willing to give into them just because they demanded it. I was dealing with an even more violent male at home so was well prepared to take on these boys. You know what was even worse, the girls, much more vicious. Again, all caused by jealousy, envy and fear.

As for Europe, keep saving even if you have to delay the trip for a year, it's worth it and you'll have a blast I'm sure. Why not sell some of your stuff in that garage sale, you could make a few bucks. If you have a dream, keep sight of it, whether it happens this year or next probably feels really important at the moment, but that you make it happen at all, that's the biggie.
