I'd never be caught dead protesting unless it concerned my own personal well-being. I know that sounds selfish, but like NWA742 said, I have a life and a job. What I find funny with protestors is that most of the time, they don't even know the ramifications of either sides agenda. I think it's best to look at a situation objectively and analytically, and build leaders who will side with your cause of the argument. Why? Well, first of all, if you really look into an issue and understand both sides very well, you have the advantage over those who only know one side.
You will be able to answer questions, and respond to the approprate remarks given by the other side. Be educated, and be aware. Holding a cardboard sign with profanity written on them only makes you look ignorant.
Edit: However, if Bush persues another war, I wouldn't necessarily protest in a picket line, but I might start making people understand my point of view and why I believe it is wrong. You can be persuasive without being abrasive.
