Ill-attempt At Spotting At BOS Today

Sun Jun 19, 2005 10:30 am

It was a beautiful day in Boston today, so I decided it was time to do some spotting because I'm only here for the summer. Because it looked like landings were using 4R today and takeoffs on 15R I decided Castle Island would be the best place to go after consulting the threads. I used to determine where takeoffs and landings were happening. I don't have a car here, so I needed to use the T. I decided to use the Red Line to get to the Silver Line to get to City Point. Well I got out at the wrong place and got onto the wrong Silver Line bus (it really didn't matter because the bus that goes to City Point doesn't work on the weekend). Well, I ended up in the ghetto--Dudley Station. It is a big bus hub in the middle of the ghetto... kind of like DTW but just with buses. JUST KIDDING people. I'm a fan of DTW's new terminal. You know it is bad when there has to be a "Police Substation" right inside the bus station. It turns out that another police station was about two blocks away. But anyway people reeked horribly on the buses to and from Dudley station. My advice to anyone trying to spot, know exactly where you are going, and have your local public transportation website make an itinerary for you. If the weather is going to be good tomorrow I will try again.

Ah...the beauty of the Silver Line. It's divided into 3 parts. Silver Line I is down Washington Street, and does not stop at South Station. The other two parts (II and III) both originate at South Station, and make none of the other stops with rapid transit. II heads out to the airport, while III heads to City Point. It is a pain in the best advice though is to take the Blue Line out...the police are pretty strict at the airport itself, while at Constitution Beach (get off at Orient Heights and walk back toward the beach, the Blue Line runs right beside it between Wood Island and Orient Heights) I've never had a problem. It's best used when 22 R/L is in use (not as good when 4 R/L is in use, but still suitable), but I've used it when the 27/33 combo were in use and it wasn't horrible (not conducive to photography though).
