Yellow Ribbons Welcome Home Found Utah Boy

Wed Jun 22, 2005 11:27 pm

"Rescuers said Hawkins did the unexpected. Instead of heading downhill, he climbed higher as he wandered farther from a Boy Scout camp.
Hawkins was found in good condition Tuesday by Forrest Nunley, a 43-year-old house painter from Salt Lake City who was out looking on his own, miles outside of active search grids. The boy had seen some volunteer searchers on horseback but avoided them because he was scared. His parents had told him not to talk to strangers"

These sort of stories just make want to PUKE. I think at this point in time the only time yellow ribbons ought to be used is when our Soldiers come home from Iraq.

These are the type of stories that the Networks just love to use to cover up all of F#@k ups and LIES the Bush administration has reaped upon the USA and the world. Yes it is awesome that this boy is alive but there are more important stories to cover.

Then you just HAD to bring Bush into it. So sad when one has lost all grip on reality.

How sad that stories like this make you want to puke.

My friends son went missing in almost the same place last August and has never been found. In fact, even though his daughter is getting married this Friday, he went out to help search for this boy.

I think it is just this sort of story that should be covered and that every effort should be made to make people aware of this. I also think that people who say that things like Yellow Ribbons should be the exclusive reserve of a certain group ie. soldiers returning from war, are somewhat blinkered and should think before they post such statements.

The parents of this boy were immensley relieved by his finding and if his neighbours and friends wanted to decorate trees etc with Yellow Ribbons who are you to say no?

Just allow these people their moment of relief without condemming the news services for reporting something positive for a change. And pray to whatever god you believe in you are never in the situation where your son or daughter goes missing. Trust me, you'll welcome any media coverage and support.

I really wondered how you would do it this time, but your ability to turn anything into a let's-bash-Bush-post never ceases to amaze me.  Silly
And you know, I don't really agree with your President's policies, too.

In a story about a lost Boyscout, there should be no mention of President Bush. Its as simple as that.

With all due respect, kids are lost and found every single day. To break out with the yellow ribbons and have a big celebratory campaign for his return is a bit over the top.

If what you are thinking is true then why hasnt this story made it on CNN,FOX, or MSNBC....

RSmith strikes again...

Breaking out the yellow ribbons is over the top, but how did you manage to tie in Bush with this?

I dare say it does. However, to slam one story just because another didn't get coverage is rather stupid and pretty narrow minded.

Why can't you just be grateful for the kid and his parents? I would think, from your posting, because you are so wrapped up in whatever political wrangling it is you are slagging Bush of for.

If you dont like the media reporting this sort of thing, why not tell them. All you've done here in my view is make yourself look like a callous, couldn't care less jerk.

Very true! Dude is obsessed! I agree the yellow ribbons may be a bit over the top, but I can also understand the family's joy at finding their son.

I also slap boxes of cookies out of Girl Scouts hands when I see them at the store. The money is just going to Bush anyways.

While I am happy this kid was found alive and well, I also think we are spending waaaay too much time making this kid out to be some kind of hero. The kid was a moron...He left his boyscout camp without permission, and ventured way off into the wilderness by himself, and got himself lost. This kid deserves a good a** chewing for being an idiot, just as much as a good talking to about being responsible. All the media is doing is telling kids "It's ok to go off by yourself...I mean you'll get found..." I agree that using yellow ribbons is a bit over kill, and I think that as much as I don't like President Bush...I am STILL trying to figure out how Rsmith6621a brought Bush into this debate. That still confuses me. I'll bash Bush with the rest of you...But Bush has no place in this discussion. He wasn't out there searching for him, after all Wink  duck

It's bad enough when you turn every other thread into a Bush-bashing fiasco, but to start one about a missing child, and relate it to your political views in the same post is simply pathetic.  Yeah sure  banghead

Rsmith6621a, you may want to look into the original meaning of a yellow ribbon. It didn't start with the soldiers.

The news coverage was also overdone, and overdramatized as News usually is. I was watching the story on CNBC. It's great he was found alive, but it was as if it was the only thing going on in the world.

It's story's like this that remind me of that MADtv skit, where the news keeps breaking in with an overdramatized weather report: "Windstorm '97."

Surprised they didn't give this one a name.

And why the hell does some kid who spent a grand total of 4 days on a personal country-side excursion have to clutter my TV with his less than pathetic story? Why the hell did the kid leave his camp site anyway? If he was SO SMART he wouldn't have gotten his dumb ass lost in the first place.

There are dozens of kids who disappear every day in our metropolitan areas across the country. If THOSE kids are found alive it would be a blessing and a miracle, especially with all those sicko pedophiles that our revolving door justice system place near schools and day-care centers due to wanton neglect.

This little Boy Scout everyone is sh*tting themselves over was never in any real danger... the only thing that would have killed him was his own stupidity. The reports said he spent days evading search parties because his parents told him "not to talk to strangers". Yet if some smooth talking pedophile came up to him offering videogames and candy... guess who's remains will be scattered all over some godforsaken field in Kansas.

This story proves that the media has nothing important to cover... go figure.

Yeah, apparently he saw the horses but was afraid to approach the men to ask for help.

That's not a very smart thing, especially when you must know people are looking for you.

The kid looks like he's mentally retarded or something... I think that might factor into his bizarre behaviour with the whole "never talk to strangers" deal...

WTF does Bush have to do with this RSmith . . . go crawl back under your Rock in Seattle . . . you're pathetic attempt here to draw some sort of Bush Bash on this story is ludicrous. Why this thread even got this far I'll never know.

As for the boy -

I guess he gets his merit badge for Survival - balanced by the loss of a merit badge for Land Navigation.

Because there was merit in the main topic, just not the Bush Bash attempt and judging by the responses, it didn't turn out well for RSmith. In-between almost all of us telling RSmith he needs to start taking valium, there is some good content on the actual subject.
