Thu Jun 23, 2005 11:35 am

With the newest addition to our flock, I am like a proud father snapping pictures every day. Here are some recent ones:

I thought about getting a rescue greyhound [because I wager on them quite a bit]. Is there a difference between Italians and Whippets?

Yes there is a difference in those breeds.

- Full size Greyhounds (the racers) average 55 lbs.

- Whippets average 30 lbs.

- Italian Greyhounds average 14 lbs. (conisdered the miniature breed)

Their personalities are pretty similar. They are affectionate 'couch potatoes' and do not require constant exercise (that is a myth).

Italians and Whippets prefer to burrow under blankets and pillows as their thin skin keeps them cold.

All three breeds are known to have problems with their teeth because their jaws have thin and narrow bones. They are not prone to any other illnesses or chronic conditions.

Concord977, you should make a calendar with those photos. I set another photo of your Italian Greyhounds as my desktop wallpaper at work for a day. They're very photogenic dogs.

Concord977, those dogs are adorable! What are their names?

They seem so much nicer than the bitch my mum just got from her vet friend. It's one of these:

She doesn't have a name yet, but I've decided to call her 'bitch' until she has one.
For such a tiny dog, bitch can bark!

Concord977, wow you have quite the family! They are amazing dogs and I'm sure you enjoy spending lots of time with them. It is amazing how attached we grow to our pets.....definately unconditional love!

FlyingTexan, what a cute puppy! I've seen pictures of Wheaten Terriers before and yours is really cute. Enjoy!

Concord977,

Your dogs are incredibly cute! That first picture is priceless, and CUTE! Did you have to try several times to get them to look at the camera all at once?

Phyllis,

I love that first picture, that is hillarious. I think she was a little confused as to what is going on!

She is cute, certainly. But she's really, really, really loud. It's nearly 1.30 in the morning and she's still barking her head off. I don't know where she gets the energy - I'm exhausted just listening to her!

Concord977, I'll say it again, your babies are adorable! What are their names?

Jase, sorry I missed your question the first time. Here are their names and a one-liner about each one.

Cute dogs you have there. This past January we adopted a Golden Retriever from a relative of mine and could not be happier that we did this, or spoiling her anymore. If I could post a photo I would as like you we are talking them almost daily of her. Lily is our girls name.

Unfortunately my current living situation doesn't permit dogs. So I live vicariously through my parent's dogs and my brother's dog.

Greyhounds are such sweet and well tempered dogs. It is such a shame that they are exploited like they are. They deserve good loving homes, not some dingy kennel.

Thanks Curt! However did you get them to pose like that?

Based on looks alone, I've decided Buster is my favourite. I love how his ears go in different directions!

Thank you! She’s a charm! Same to yours. If that is a poodle, they are very loyal and live a very long time.

My previous dog was half poodle and he lived for 19 years! 1984-2003. RIP.

Those dogs Concord977 has a something else! Very photogenic!

Here is Lady now, she is 30 lbs. and those eyelashes are real!

My favorite breed is the common mixed-breed, the "mutt" if you like (my favorite dog was the result of an encounter between a Dalmation, and a "traveling man"; we think dad was perhaps whippet or greyhound, but who knows. Result was a fine and noble beast, gone now but she lives on in our hearts). But I have to admit that Italian Greyhounds are elegant and pretty cool dogs. A friend of mine had one, and he was a little hyper, but that's scarcely a represenantive sample, now is it? They cannot be too wack, if you were abe to get that many of them to sit still long enough to be photographed.

Good on you for adopting! Too many people get pets, then abandon them when the novelty wears off or they become inconvenient. Their loss, your gain.

Those are, then, lucky dogs.
