A mini-bar, an industrial sized drum of Swafegar, a full length dress mirror, a handy brochure listing local escort agencies, and finally - internet access.

But God No! Not a spellchecker!!!!!!

After being in disgusting hotels that shows a beautiful picture trough the web and once you are there the hotel just sucks... From now on, A hotel has to belong to a renamed Chain...i.e: Marriott, Intercontinental, Hilton..etc.

As long as it has a clean bed and a clean bathroom, it will do for me. A pool would be a bonus, so would be a bar.

Good location and low price!

I don't need to stay at a fancy hotel. If I am in a hip town like Amsterdam, Paris, London, Havana, New Orleans or Montreal, I don't really care about hotel amenities.

A bed, a clean bathroom and a TV. Screw the rest and the price tag has to be good.

Breakfast helps although not compulsory if there's plenty of local choice. I'm just a cheap bastard at heart....

I also tend to stick with chain groups. They can keep the TV, I find an in-room safe more valuable these days - I hate those safety deposit boxes down at reception.

When I'm paying, a bed in a room, which is clean. A shower and a common room with a TV (in other words a youth hostel)
When I'm working Multiple stars and a big bed and a clean bathroom.

I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to hotel/motel rooms. As long as the rooms are clean, a comfortable bed and pillows, it's somewhat quiet (I prefer not to stay on the ground floor), has a TV, and somewhere to eat in walking distance. I'm a low frills kind of person, I don't even care if the room has a coffeemaker in it.

I'm fairly easy, as long as it's cheap, safe and clean then it's fine for me. An en-suite bathroom is always handy (especially when you have the shits) anything else is a bonus.

To me a hotel room is just somewhere to store my gear and sleep.

Overall: cleanliness, palpable climate control, and somewhere close to have a meal.

I prefer a place not too far from where I'm going to be visiting or spending most of my time.

If I walk in and see worn carpet, shabby looking staff or find people smoking inside, I find another place to stay.

I prefer a 4 star, but as I can't usually afford them, location and a TV come into the equation. I have stayed in some dodgy hotels (Cygnet in Luton *shudder*), but nice ones too (Radisson SAS Hannover, and staying at the Barcelo Lanzarote in a couple of days - 4* Big grin)

Reasonable location. Clean public facilities and rooms. Comfortable bed. Good water pressure. Somewhere I can buy a tea (coffee bar etc.) or a microwave and fridge in room or accessible nearby. Preferrably a Starwood or Hyatt property.  Smile

I would ask them to give me a room on the top floor, share only one common wall to the next room. Of course, 4+ stars hotel only.

Reasons:
#1: I don't like people walk or kids run above me
#2: I don't want to listen to all the banging on the bed with their wife/gf. But it is Okay for me to bang with the guy or guy with guy banging next door.

Hypocrite....

This leads me to what I HAVE to have..... CLEAN EVERYTHING!!
Clean sheets, Clean bathroom/tub/sink, clean floor. Without these what's the point?

Now things that would be nice
-Hot water for a REALLY long shower
-Nobody in the surrounding rooms or kids running down the halls at all hours.
-A pool
-cable TV with free porn

What would be awesome:

It helps if the room was last remodled sometime in the 1990s. I've been in some hotels which look like a throw back to 1986. A good HVAC system is a must, and most hotels don't do too well. I don't want the damn airconditioner or heater cranking away all night long.

I do want a roomy hotel room when I can spread out, and exercise in room if I wanted to. A comfy airchair or sofa is also nice to have. Good quality linens are a must, plus a nice down duvet cover. Plus bath towels that are at least normal sized. Been in a few places who get their bath towels from the same place that supplies the local high school.

New hotels and remodelled hotels no longer offer bath room fans to air out bad odors. I like the older hotels that hasn't changed much over the years. Bathroom fans is one important factor.

Palpable climate control? As opposed to intangible climate control? :-P Just kidding, Redngold. I understand what you mean - just stayed at a hotel where there was no thermostat in the room. Climate control consisted of opening or closing the vents in the room and in the bathroom.

For me, it needs to have interior corridors, a private bath, a coffee maker, a TV, and needs to be relatively clean (garbage emptied, no stains on the linens, no bugs, etc.)

I need the place to feel nicer than being at home. I'm not in the position of traveling for business so any trip I'm on is for pleasure and the hotel should give the feeling of being away, somewhere new. It should be an experience not just necessity. Maybe this is just a personal quirk?

I'm off to Singapore tomorrow and we've gone for a 3br serviced apartment off Orchard road over a hotel room this time so I'm hoping it turns out ok. It's called the great world city apartments and it looks nice enough in the photos but as Bongo says sometimes the pictures can be deceiving. Does anyone have any experience with this place?
