AMS Layover

Wed Jun 29, 2005 1:50 am

Have a Sunday morning layover at AMS on the way to STR. We arrive at 5:55 AM and depart at 9:20 AM. Is it foolish to think about taking the train to central station for a nice walk and maybe coffee? Of course I'm assuming an on-time flight and quick passport control.

Thanks,

the train takes less than 15 mins to downtown amsterdam.
They go every 15 minutes or so.
For sure, you have time. plenty of time.

Another option would be to spend that 3+h at Schiphol Plaza. That would save you the trip downtown as the available time in downtown would be limited to approx. 1h. In case you decide to go, Amsterdam Centraal (CS) has the code "1000" on those ticket vending machines. Last time I was at Schiphol, ticket counters for train tickets were located outside (some construction work was going on).

You can check out the layout of the airport at www.schiphol.nl

I deliberately fly through AMS whenever possible, simply so I can spend the layover in Amsterdam. 15 minutes to Centraal Station, it has got to be the easiest and cheapest (3.40 Euro) airport-downtown trips of any major airport.

Absolutely you should go downtown. Don't think twice about it.
