Apple III - Why Such A Failure?

Fri Jul 01, 2005 3:32 am

Just read a small article about how the Apple III was a failure. Any of you computer boffins know from first hand experience why it failed?

I never followed the Apple II line very closely... had to google myself for that:

It seems they screwed up the thermal design, had to replace a great number of delivered systems and lost customer confidence in the process.

By the time the problem was fixed, the new Macintosh supplanted the old 8-bit line.

Just read that it was really expensive and had numerous problems.
One popular solution was that if something became loose inside the machine, you picked it up 3 inches into the air, and then dropped it  crazy
