That's cool.
Liincoln offered a Jack Nicklaus Edition Lincoln Town Car for teh 1992 and 1997 model years.
The ideal luxury car for the golfer.  Cool

Of course its obvious that someone that hits a little ball around a park with a stick is deserving to be put on a bank note, and Stephen hawking is still neglected

why him, why not Alexander graham bell, Arthur conan Doyle, Alexander Fleming someone scottish!

even Billy connolly or oor willy would have been better!

personally i would like to see Dod n' Bunty on a fiver..

Scotland issuing its own money? I thought they were part of the Great Britain. And last time I checked, Great Britain already has a currency.

That's like Texas issuing its own money because the United States' currency isn't good enough.

I say they ought to release a "Trainspotting" edition of Scottish currency!

Issuing their own currency, pegged at Sterling or the British Pound, whatever they are calling it today, is simply a paper exercise.....

just like having their own parliament. It is alot like Texas having a state legislature and getting permission to issue State of Texas notes that are actually dollars but look different.

all part of the labor ploy to gain Scottish votes by promising greater independence.

Lets see some fur fly from that truth.

pegged at Sterling or the British Pound,

Actually, it is the Pound Sterling. Pound is generally used as a coloquial term (along with quid and sundry other names) and Sterling is the name used in talk about currency regimes.

BTW, the Scots have it right in issuing the 1 Pound note and saving many a hole in the pocket.

British currency is issued by certain banks which hold warrants to do so.

In England and Wales it's the Bank of England, in Scotland there are (I think) three banks who can also do it (HBoS, RBS and Clydesdale). They do not issue coins.

Northern Ireland also issues its own currency in a similar fashion. Strictly speaking the notes from all 3 nations are acceptable tender anywhere in the UK although there are occasionally problems with retailers.

Asian shopkeepers in particular don't like taking Scottish notes!

Wales does not participate as English-Welsh currency is totally integrated. The Isle of Man also issues some currency of its own.

Yeah.....I used Scottish pound notes to buy stuff in Portsmouth once and the fishmonger asked me which country these were from. I said Scotland and he got mad and asked me whether I had any real money! I pointed out that at least I wasn't trying to pass of French Francs and he laughed and gave me my fish and chips.

How about these ideas instead of an American Golfer:
- A Scottish golfer, an early British Open winner.
- As suggested above, A.G. Bell or the writer Burns or of leaders of early attemps of Scottish independence, and so on.
- Perhaps to placate Gkirk and his irk, a picture of the Scottish flag
- Pictures of sheep on the note, as they outnumber the human population and would recognize the special connection (not that kind) of sheep and the Scots.
- How about a picture of a Scots Wiskey distillary or distilling equipment. That would be something distinctive of Scotland.
- A picture of a major place of scenery of Scotland (Loch Ness or some other Loch/lake or a major Glen leading to the sea, scenes of the Northern Highlands and so on.
I have been fortunate to visit and travel in Scotland twice in 1986 and 1993, enjoying the scenery and fine people. I am aware of the distain by small shopkeepers of accepting Scottish notes, even just below the border of Scotland.

Funny I was under the impression that Scotland was part of the United Kingdom. I'd also be interested to see the currency issued by the ISLAND of Great Britain.  sarcastic

Exactly. And do we fall for it? Of course.. Get off yer knees Scotland

Regarding the Nicklaus £5 note, its only commemorative I suspect - it will be legal tender but will be a limited run. Like when the 1992 European Summit was held in Edinburgh, there was a commemorative £1 produced, of which I still have two. Any bids?

Maybe we should have a G8 commemorative fiver also - with Blair's head on a pole on one side and the smoking remains of the Gleneagles Hotel on the other.

At least you can use Scottish money in England (albeit with difficulty!). We also have our own money here on the Isle of Man and apart from a few shops in Liverpool and Manchester, no-one in UK will accept it. Especially the one pound notes!

Mind you, as we aren't actually part of the UK, and Scotland is, then thats probably a good enough reason.

Over to you Mr Kirk et al.
