Best Sleep

Sun Jul 03, 2005 5:13 pm

Figured I'd go for the completion and get my 7th thread-starter for the night. It's been a slow night. Now I look forward to going back to the crashpad for a well-earned morning on a rock hard bunk. Actually, it's not bad, but, oh, how I crave a queen-size Certa (or Sealy - who cares, just a comfy bed) or something of similiar size. If there's anything in my house that has to be done right (after the fridge - and maybe the washer and dryer), it has to be the bed. I've forgotten the differences between all of the top brands - I'll have to head into a mattress store and "try a few out" - maybe for several minutes at a time.  Wink

I'm with MEL. After a day of hard work, I don't care what I sleep on.

After a hard day, I can pretty much fall asleep anywhere. A nice cool temperature is more important to me than the comfort of the mattress.

Pirelli mattresses are pretty good. But don't forget the importance of a good set of springs underneath...

I prefer hard matrasses. Soft ones cause me back problems.

SOFT SOFT SOFT, my bed has a pillowtop on it, and I still put another goose down pillow top on that, and combine it with a few goose feather stuffed pillows, then I'm in heaven. I turn the temperature way down cold, and throw on lots of blankets.

Another thing that really helps you get a good sleep is if you have something peaceful to listen to. I prefer "white" noise, or an ocean similation. Other stuf bugs me to listen to. Someone suggested classical music, but as a pianist, I listen to the music in detail, which doesn't help me sleep.

It doesn't much matter what I sleep on. I usually get my best sleep 'afterwards' with my wife  Smile

Oh great, a thread about mattresses. I'm shopping around and found an all foam mattress, does anyone find these comfortable or preferable over a spring mattress?

I prefer foam mattresses. I had one for the last several years living in Germany, best sleep I've ever gotten. Since I've been back in Canada, sleeping on my spring mattress, I've been getting sore backs and tossing and turning all night. Foam is the way to go.

Serious question: How is sex on a foam mattress? I like how my firm Sealy bouces back. It does half of the work for me.

THE ROOM MUST BE COOL. I cannot sleep in hot weather, that is by far the worst thing for me as far as sleep. If its hot, I wake up many times during the night, sweaty and uncomfortable. Even if it IS cool, I usually sleep with the covers only over my stomach, midsection, and thighs.... Arms, calves and feet are always in open air.

I too like SOFT mattresses. I have a great mattress, its the perfect firmness / softness. I want to get a feather-bed to put on top of it though...I also like pillows surrounding me; i need one behind my head, and another perpendicular to that one, going down from my head to my arm, where i rest my arm on it.... weird i know...

i enjoy very cold pillows and a nice warm duvet cover. I sleep with a duvet cover and 2 other blankets even during the summer time. I get cold easily. I also live with a space heater next to my computer.

I have several pillows too... along with my stuffed animals ... yes i still sleep with them...
