I have to admit, despite of my age, that I am a Harry Potter fan. The biggest English book shop here in Zurich will sell the first copies at Saturday 0101 (this is 0001 UK time). I probably be there any buy one (as I did the last time).  Wink

It seems like the people who hate the book are the ones who haven't read it, or seen the movie...it's pathetically stupid.

Anyway, after getting that point across, I pre-ordered mine, and can't wait to get it  Smile.

Haven't gone for the pre-order. I will just head in to the shops and buy one on Saturday.

On a side issue, how many here think Harry's days are numbered. The way I read the last one (order of phoenix) was that Voldermalt's death is linked to Harry's? Any Ideas?

My wife and kids are planning on being at Wal-Mart at midnight when it comes out. We've been arguing about who gets to read it first. What they don't understand is I'm paying for the damn thing so I'm reading it first.

I believe that J.K. Rowling is the Mark Twain and William Shakespeare of today. In a hundred years from now she will be a literary giant that will be required reading at all places of higher education.
Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm off to read the last one again. Just to get in the mood for Friday.

Hopefully not. She tells a good story, but her writing is pretty bad IMHO.

I definitely have a copy pre-ordered. I am currently living in a house with 6 other Harry Potter fans, so I decided to go ahead and order my own copy, cause otherwise I would have to wait in line to read it. It should be here Saturday, says amazon.com, and they better be right. Right now, I am re-reading the rest of the series in preparation.

14 copies of new Harry Potter book sold by accident; Canadian court orders readers mum

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

ASSOCIATED PRESS

COQUITLAM, British Columbia - A handful of people in Canada got a sneak peak of the latest Harry Potter book, but a British Columbia Supreme Court judge ordered them to keep it a secret.

The book was sold to 14 people who snagged a copy of J.K. Rowlings' much anticipated "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," when it landed on shelves last Thursday at a local grocery store.

I've been to that store and it doesn't surprise me. The place is just a big great mess, cheap place to get your photos developed though!

My wife has started bugging me now about the book and has seeded doubt in my mind that there will be enough copies to go round come nine am SYD time.

I see some conflicting times here, The UK get it at midnight, SYD at nine am, what time is the official US opening?

14 people in Coquitlam BC already got their copies. Apparently, one of the Superstores accidently put them on the floor the other day. Before they realized the mistake, 14 copies were sold. The funny thing is that there was a court order in the newspaper today stating that the people who purchased the copies, will be breaking the law and fined if they disclose any information of the book, talk about the book or even read the book until the 16th ....  rotfl

On a lighter note, the same Judge also said that if the people bring back the book, they will have it returned, autograhed by JK Rowling along with a Harry Potter gift set.

Anyone care to take a guess at what the first word is going to be, for the heck of it?

Historically, the books have started with "Mr.", "Not", "Harry", "The" and "The", in that order from first to fifth. So "the" seems to be the likely candidate if one goes by the trend. But I'm going to put my money (not that I have any) on "It" to start off the new book.

Any other guesses? Preferably, make them by 0000 BST (1 hour and 45 minutes from the time of this posting).

Nah, she's no Mark Twain or William Faulkner, and certainly not the literary genius that Shakespeare was.

But I like the series, although it took me till the fourth book to really get into it.

My friends and I decided to drive around last night, seeing how many bookstores we could get to while they were still open. We just drove around, and you wouldn't believe how many people stood out in line. I don't even read Harry Potter, but it was a good time. Didn't get home till about 3:30.

Has anyone else noticed that these days if the subject of the Harry Potter books or movies comes up when you are in a social group and you dare to say that you are either not interested in the subject or haven't read/seen Harry Potter, you get looked at like you've just admitted you enjoy playing sex-games with your pet dog?

On the day that JK Rowling spews forth another episode of the money-spinning series featuring the bespectacled school swot, I wonder how long it will be before I am yet again surrounded by a group of adults going on about how wonderful it will be to read it, like they are teenage girls talking about who has been asked to the Prom by the school hunk....shit..the frenzy has already started....ahhh..I'm already going mad!  crazy

As the movies tumble from the studio conveyor belt I always want the next one to be more realistically titled "Harry Potter & The Never-Ending Franchise".
And how about the title of the next book (which I'm sure there will be) "Harry Potter & The Suckers Who Give Me $$$ to read Absolute Crap" - By JK Rowling.

Anyway, that's it.
Rant over.
Enjoy your Harry Potter books.

May I sugest Lithium Carbonate* it does wonders for those with sour moods and can't find any fun in this world!

*Use:
Treatment of manic episodes of manic-depressive illness. Initiate treatment at 600-900 mg/day in 3 divided doses; increase to 1,200-1,800 mg/day in 3 divided doses to achieve serum lithium concentrations between 0.8 and 1.2 mmol/L. Adjust dose according to clinical response and trough serum level (12 h) after steady state is reached (4-5 days). After the acute manic episode subsides, adjust dose to maintain a level of 0.6-1.0 mmol/L. The average dosage range at this stage is usually 450-1,200 mg/day. If a satisfactory antimanic response is not obtained in 14 days, consider discontinuing lithium.

Should have put money down. Oh well, maybe next time....

Page 237 at the moment for me (up to Chapter 12), and the book has been quite ordinary, repetitive, wow-I-saw-that-one-coming-eighty-miles-away-on-TCAS-ish, etc.

I'd much rather be reading "The Icarus Hunt" at this point, but I'll force myself to finish this thing, hopefully today so that I can move on.
