MLB All Star Game Thread

Tue Jul 12, 2005 10:15 am

Boy has the All Star Game gotten off to a great start!! We have Bobby Abreu who has just hit 24 homeruns only to be backed by Carlos Lee with 11 and Hee Sop Choi with 5.

Bobby went crazy. It was almost getting boring watching him.

I have a feeling he will fade out in the 2nd round with a total of 8 in that round.

Jason Bay? Hee-Seop Choi? They're good players, but they don't belong in the Home Run Derby. And Ivan Rodriguez only has 6 home runs for the season! I believe this whole international HRD is just to take the focus of the usual juiced up long ballers that usually dominate the competitions. Most of the first half leaders in home runs aren't even in the competition. Bring back the old format, this one stinks.  Sad

My boy Ortiz hit 17, I picked him and Carlos for the last round and Ortiz to win it all so lets see what happens.

Venezuela Representin with Bobby Abreu

I really thought he was done for the night after 24 homer, even with 6 he qualified to the finals and completly blew everyone away at the end. To finish with 41 in one night is incredible, some don;t even hit that in a whole season

Talking to my friends back home I have to say everyone is so proud of him
ROLL TIDE!!!

While watching Abreu hit 24 batting practice pitches out of the park was somewhat compelling, the thing that really amazed me was how often Chris Berman keeps reminding what a complete idiot he (Berman) is. Enough of the "going, going, gone" bit when the ball goes 100' beyond the wall. And way more than enough of the "Oh-to-be-young again McDowell" crap.

Berman never fails to remind me that there is at least one baseball TV announcer/analyst worse than Tim McCarver.

Maybe I just don't get it. What's so exciting aboput seeing major-league sluggers blasting BP pitches out of the park? Want an impressive home run derby? Get Mariano and Johan up there, then the HRs would be a feat.

I was glad to see Hee-Seop Choi, he had a run of seven home runs in thirteen at bats at one point this season. I'd never seen anything like it.
