All of the sudden I feel priviledged that I never have to "search" for Oreos, they are available at just about every grocery store here!

My favourite are the overpriced double-stuff Mint Creme kind. Big grin

Peanut butter is also good.

Count me in on those double-stuff Oreos (UTAFlyinghigh, let me know if you can't get those in your neck of the woods and I'll send you some--they're awesome!).

But if you're a fan of vanilla, do try the Trader Joe's vanilla bean Joe Joes. These things are so sweet I'm about to lapse into a diabetic coma after eating two, but they're sooooooo good!

When I was a child at Tahiti I used to eat Oreos...then, back in France, Oreos weren't on sale here, which made me feel a little special because we were only a few in France to know what an Oreo was...
Well things have changed and now you can find Oreos at any French Carrefour...

A friend of mine gave me Oreos a few years back, when it was not available in France. Oh well, I guess you have to have grown up with them to really enjoy those.

Cheers,

You damn right! I haven't seen them in aaaages here in Scotland, but then again I haven't really been looking for them (I'm off chocolate for a little "willpower" test. I don't see what the fuss is about - Oreo's are OK, with milk, but they don't come anywhere close to a choccie digestive or (mmmmm!) Hobnobs. It's just no contest.

I love Oreos, though they are quite expensive here so I rarely buy them. I did buy some in Iceland last year though (I was hungry, and you know where you are with oreos!).

I've also eaten Oreo cereal when I was in Florida 4 years ago - nice!

I have had many an Oreo in the past, actually too many, so don't eat them anymore as are fat and sugar bombs as my Chlorestrol and weight numbers are too high. We can get them cheap here, saw them on sale the other day for about $US 2.50 for 1 Lb/450Gms packages. We also have reduced fat versions and something like 10 other versions too. All Oreos in the USA are being reformilated to remove heart deadly trans fats, but it may ruin their mouth feel, taste to conform to the health "police". Damm them!

Hmmmmm....

In Aruba the supermarkets mostly sell American products and Oreo's are not an exception. We have all the versions, including the reduced fat one, the one with peanut butter & chocolate cream, and the one with chocolate cream............ I like them all!

But this is by far my favorite!

We also get the imitation stuff from Venezuela etc., but nothing beats the real thing!!!!!

Nobody can imitate oreos. Any off-brand cookie that looks like one that I have ever eaten has tasted like utter crap.

If they want to do bootleg Oreos at least make it convincing!

This thread has made me wish that the US would drop care packets of Oreos all over Europe for the Oreo-deprived.  Sad

Enjoyed them as a kid now find them way to sweet for my taste. Give me a Mrs Fields oatmeal raisin cookie any day over a over processed, sugar laden excuse for a cookie (oreos).

I flew from Seattle to Newark once with a lady who worked at Nabisco in the seat next to me. I believe she worked in the Oreo marketing department! We talked about the difference and she pointed out to me that they are made by Christie in Canada (slogan: "Mr. Christie, you make good cookies"). The really interesting thing she told me was that Christie had only licensed the name and the look and feel and had their own recipe that they used.

I don't know what the difference is, and I'm sure that if had grown up with American Oreos they would taste better. But I love the Canadian ones. Mmmm...maybe I'll have to have one or two with my tea this morning. Yummy!

Ooooooh Oreo's!
I can eat them until I get sick! I do occasionally too!
You MUST have a huge glass of milk to dip them into though.
Double stuff for me! The mint ones are fantastic too! I dont eat them often but when I do I get the original flavor double stuff's and go for it! Hold nothing back!
I cant believe there are countries that dont have oreo's! I never really thought about it though. I would have assumed they were a world wide product since they are a classic cookie over here in the U.S. right up there with the chocolate chip cookie! They do have those in other countries dont they?

CRAZY a thread about Oreos. Bought them last week because I had seen them in the shop for the first time. After having a few It took me nearly one day to find out were I had eaten them before...it was in Spain during my time on Tenerife in 2003. Good to know a shop (Strauss) in Germany, were I can buy them. Are there different tasts? Only one is available here.

Again...strange topic!!!

Well...just to go against the grain here, I think they're horrible!! There are many things the Americans do well, but IMHO chocolate (and chocolate flavoured snacks) ain't one of 'em (and don't get me started on the smell of Hershey's...let's just say "sweaty feet")!

The first time I went to visit family in North Carolina, I had Oreos virtually forced down my throat - eventually I had to fess up and say that I really didn't like them and that they should stop wasting them on their strange English relative!

They sell them in my local Tesco's, but I have to say that I always pass them by and head straight for the Chocolate Hob Nobs.

As for Oreos, I like a BIG glass of milk (mmm...organic 1%) and I prefer the original OR the Chocolate Covered Oreos. Interesting about the Canadian Oreos, Scarlet - I think this calls for you and Vaporlock to ship some down to us Americans for a taste test  Smile

I started drinking organic skim milk a couple of years ago and it tastes so much better than the non-organic stuff. Do you find this too? I expect you do, since the organic stuff is so much more expensive.

Ha - I wish I could ship Canadian Oreos to you 'Marcains. I live in the US too - and I'm not sharing the one package of Canadian Oreos that I have - not even with Mr. Harlot!  Smile

Oh, not me! I never liked those things. They are rather nasty, in my opinion.

Hey, Canadians, do you guys still get Girl Guide cookies? Those little chocolate and vanilla sandwich cookies? I remember buying them out of charity - they didn't taste very good so it wasn't like anybody really wanted to eat them. Down here, they're Girl Scouts and not Girl Guides, and the cookies are AMAZING! They sell a huge variety of cookies and they are delicious. Well, some of them are, anyway. People buy cases of them and freeze them.

I also found an unusual cookie at the grocery store on Saturday. There was a display of packaged ANZAC cookies! I first encountered these in Australia in February. Had no idea what they were but they were tasty! I guess an Australian manufactuer (UNIBIC?) is marketing them here as a fundraiser for the Veterans of Foreign Wars group. I bought a package and they were as tasty as I remember the one I had in Sydney. I have no idea how they'll go over here, though. I had never heard of them before my trip to Australia.

Mmmmmm ANZAC cookies - they're a fave ! I once survived a 14 hour MEL JNB flights on QF just on Anzacs. Bastards gave us a teeny cold lunch just after take off at MEL, on a daylight flight, and were only planning to feed us another meal 2 hours out of JNB, 10 hours later ! This was a fairly new nonstop, and they clearly hadn't thought out the catering, there was nearly a riot on board, parents were complaining that their kids were starving etc. Crew was dishing out lots of Anzac cookies to quell the natives.

But even Anzacs cannot hold a candle to the divine and wondrous TimTam. Mmmmmmmm Timmmmmmtammmmmmsssss - chocolateyliciousss !
